Everything you need to know about the Arizer ArGo

Sometimes it feels that technology is moving too fast, especially when it comes to the evolution of vaporizers. Though close to a decade ago, it seems like just yesterday that tank vapes were beginning to hit the market, revolutionizing the industry from large desktop vaporizers like the Volcano to sleek, portable units like those produced by G Pen. The endless bells and whistles of technological add-ons like bluetooth app synchronization and touch sensors had yet to complicate the already complicated medium of using electric heat to vaporize flower and concentrates.

Today, the market is awash with tech-savvy vapes that are unnecessarily difficult to understand — let alone operate. In many cases, the pursuit of incorporating technology into the vaping process seems to have eclipsed the importance of the vaping process itself, which should be simple, pleasant and accessible.

For an excellent flower vaporizer that is more concerned with being a great vape than syncing with other technology in the room, look no further than the Arizer ArGo, a portable convection vape that has everything you need, and nothing you don’t.

Whether you’re in the market for a new vape, or just curious as to what all the buzz is about, here’s our take on the Arizer ArGo.

What is the Arizer ArGo?

The ArGo is a portable convection vaporizer from the brand Arizer, well respected industry vets known for their no-nonsense, high-quality products. While Arizer initially rose to notoriety over 12 years ago for their desktop setups like the V-Tower and Extreme, they evolved with the times, and now have five portable vaporizers in their roster, the ArGo being the newest addition to their lineup.

What sets the ArGo apart is that it packs the vapor quality and customization options of a super expensive vape into a totally affordable ($269.99) and stripped down device that could easily pass for a beeper, flip phone or other artifact from the Y2K era. You get the ceramic convection heating, all glass airways, temperature controls and high-quality vapor output of Arizer’s desktop vaporizers, but in a ready-to-go 3.5” x 2” unit you can toss in your pocket or purse with ease.

There are only two moving parts:the vape itself and a glass tube you preload with ground flower, but the tube locks into the ArGo when not in use, making it convenient and all-in-one..

Not everyone needs to have every aspect of their existence synced to their iPhone. The ArGo is a utilitarian alternative I’ve found to be superior to other tech-savvy vapes I’ve recently reviewed.

What Can You Vape with the Argo?

The ArGo is only compatible with ground flower.

How do you use the ArGo?

Now that we’ve been over the basics, here’s how you use the Arizer ArGo.

How to charge the ArGo

The ArGo comes with a swappable 18650 battery that can be charged while inside the ArGo via USB, or outside of it with an 18650 compatible charger. This swappable battery feature allows you to pre-charge batteries if you’re going camping, or doing something that doesn’t include electricity. A single charge can last up to 90 minutes of continuous use, and the device takes about 3 hours to fully charge.

To charge the battery within the ArGo, simply plug in the USB cable and adapter. The ArGo’s screen will display the battery percentage, letting you know when it’s fully charged. It’s not necessary to fully charge the Argo upon first use, and the device can be used while charging.

How to set the control panel

The ArGo control panel consists of an OLED display and three buttons: Menu (M), Plus (+), and Minus (-). With these, you can control every aspect of the device, using M to toggle through the menu, and Plus and Minus to set temperature settings, brightness display, shut off timers and more. I turned the device on before reading the manual, yet the set up is so simple, it’s pretty much self explanatory off the bat.

Temperature Settings: The ArGo has a large range of temperature settings, from 122 degrees fahrenheit to 428 degrees fahrenheit, in 1 or 10 degree increments using the plus and minus buttons.

How to vape

  1. Load Glass Aroma Tube

Put coarsely ground flower in a small container, then twist the glass tube into the container to fill the dish — be sure not to press too hard or pack it too tightly.

  1. Insert Glass Aroma Tube

Pre-heat unit before inserting the tube, then insert the flower filled tube into the ArGo.

  1. Close the Push-Top

Push down the top to expose the end of the Glass Aroma Tube for use. For protection of the tube, press the release button on the back of the unit.

  1. Press and Hold the (+) and (M) Buttons to Turn On

A timer will count down on the OLED screen showing the power on delay and a greeting message is displayed when the unit is powered on.

  1. Set the Temperature and Let Unit Heat Up

Press one of the three control panel buttons and the ArGo will start to heat up automatically. Then, press the (+) and (-) buttons to adjust the temperature in 1-degree increments, or hold the button down to adjust the temperature in 10-degree increments.

  1. Inhale and Enjoy

The ArGo will remain heated and ready to use until you turn the device off. Because of the convection heating method, the flower is only heated when you inhale, meaning there’s virtually zero waste with this product. To turn off, hold the (M) and (-) buttons.

How to clean the ArGo

Essentially maintenance free, the ArGo is extremely easy to clean. Simply soak the glass parts in isopropyl alcohol for a couple of hours, then rise with hot water. Make sure they are fully dry before re-inserting them into the device.

What’s the appeal?

The back-to-the-basics design of the ArGo vaporizer is exciting in a market that’s been overrun by overcomplicated vapes relying on needless technology to mask a mediocre product. This vaporizer is ideal for those who want something simple and reliable, and who, like me, may secretly hate technology.

I would imagine their audience skews a little older, but it could appeal to anyone who falls in line with the philosophy that less is more. If the ArGo was a character on Parks and Recreation, it would undoubtedly be Ron Swanson: no frills, no nonsense, and extremely effective.

Everything you need to know about the Arizer Air II

With all the tech-savvy portable vaporizers on the market, it’s easy to forget that a mere ten years ago, a lot of us were passing around Volcano bags, blowing vapor rings from V-Towers, and generally getting high af off desktop vaporizers. While this idea now seems nostalgic at best, and antiquated at worst, there’s a lot to be said for those pricey, high quality flower vaporizers, as well as the brands who make them.

It seems that in the transition from big expensive vapes to small portable vaporizers and vape pens, we’ve lost a lot of product quality, which in turn has soured many weed-users on the concept of vaporizing weed altogether. Even as a cannabis journalist, deep down I was one of those soured, combustion only stoners just days prior to writing this article.

The Air II, the first portable flower vaporizer from industry vets Arizer, re-opened my mind to the benefits of the intake method, as well as the perks of having a high-quality flower vaporizer in the mix. Clearly (a follow up to) the first portable device from a brand known for epic desktop setups, it’s a genre-bending product in that it’s both a portable and an at home vaporizer. Neither of which I knew how badly I needed.

Whether you’re in the market for a new vape, or just curious as to what all the buzz is about, here’s our take on the Arizer Air II.

What is the Arizer Air II?

The Arizer Air II is a portable convection vaporizer from the brand Arizer, well respected industry vets known for their no nonsense, high quality products. While Arizer initially rose to notoriety over 12 years ago for their desktop setups like the V-Tower and Extreme, they evolved with the times, and now have five portable vaporizers in their roster. The Air II is a follow up to the popular Air, which when it was released in 2011, was the brand’s first portable vaporizer.

Blurring the line between a high end, at-home vaporizer and a portable vape for on-the-go use, the Air II uses convection heating technology (using a ceramic heating element) to produce unmatched flavor. But just because this is fully a portable vaporizer, doesn’t mean it’s the type of vape you would want to sneak into a music festival, for example. Due to it’s design, which is simple but definitely prone to breaking, it seems more portable in the way that you would bring it from your living room to your bedroom, or maybe keep in your car.

While there are only two moving parts (the vape itself and a glass tube you preload with ground flower), the design of the Air II lends itself more to a sedentary session because the glass tube sits on top of the vaporizer itself, which is thin and could easily topple over. Though the tube fits snugly, it doesn’t fully lock into place, making the device particularly prone to vibe-shattering accidents.

What Can You Vape with the Air II?

The Air II  is only compatible with ground flower.

How do you use the Air II?

Now that we’ve been over the basics, here’s how you use the Air II.

Charge the Air II

The Air II comes with a swappable 18650 battery that can be charged while inside the Air II via USB, or outside of it with an 18650 compatible charger. This interchangeable batteries allows you to pre-charge batteries if you’re going camping, or doing something that doesn’t include electricity. A single charge can last for up to 90 minutes of continuous use, and the device takes about 3 hours to charge fully.

To charge the battery within the Air II, simply plug in the USB cable and adapter. The Air II’s screen will display the battery percentage, letting you know when it is fully charged. It is not necessary to fully charge the Air II upon first use, and the device can also be used while charging.

Control Panel

The control panel of the Air II consists of an OLED display and three buttons: Menu (M), Plus (+), and Minus (-). With these, you can control every aspect of the device, using M to toggle through the menu, and plus and minus to set things like temperature settings, brightness display, shut off timers and more. I turned the device on before reading the manual. The set up is so simple, it’s pretty much self explanatory.

Temperature Settings: The Air II has a large range of temperature settings, from 122 degrees fahrenheit to 428 degrees fahrenheit, in 1 or 10 degree increments using the plus and minus buttons.

How to Vape

  1. Load Glass Aroma Tube: Put coarsely ground flower in a small container, then twist the the glass tube into the container to fill the dish, being sure not to press too hard or pack it too tightly. It comes with a stainless steel stirring tool that helps with packing.
  2. Insert Glass Aroma Tube: Pre-heat unit before inserting the tube, then insert the flower filled tube into the top of the Air II.
  3. Press and Hold the (-) and (M) Buttons to Turn On: A timer will count down on the OLED screen showing the power on delay and a greeting message is displayed when the unit is powered on.
  4. Set the Temperature and Let Unit Heat Up: Press one of the tree control panel buttons and the Air II will start to heat up automatically. Press the (+) and (-) buttons to adjust the temperature in 1-degree increments, or hold the button down to adjust the temperature in 10-degree increments.
  5. Inhale and Enjoy!: The Air II will remain heated and ready to use until you turn the device off. Because of the convection heating method, the flower is only heated when you inhale, meaning there’s virtually zero waste with this product. To turn off, hold the (M) and (+) buttons.

How to Clean the Air II

Essentially maintenance free, the Air II is extremely easy to clean. Simply soak the glass parts in isopropyl alcohol for a couple of hours, then rise with hot water. Make sure they are fully dry before re-inserting them into the top of the device .

What’s the Appeal?

With it’s simple design and high quality vapor production, The Air II is a great vaporizer for novice and seasoned users alike. Whether it’s the people who want to get into using cannabis but don’t want to smoke for medical reasons, or heavy smokers who either want a break from combustion or to conserve (and truly taste!) their weed, the Air II fills a void in that its a desktop-quality vaporizer in the form of a casual, portable vape, even if it is a little fragile.

Just because a hot new vaporizer has enough bells and whistles to link with a bluetooth speaker across the street doesn’t make it a good product when it comes time to get high. The Arizer Air has stood the test of time, and it’s successor, the Air II, will surely carry the flame for years to come.

Everything you need to know about the G Pen Elite dry herb vaporizer

Many years ago, when concentrates were more akin to hash and vaporizers were mostly on tabletops, a portable, pocket-sized vape made just for oil-type concentrates hit the scene. The original G-Pen by Grenco Science made such a splash that the industry started an entirely new branch of products: portable vapes and concentrates.

These devices have come a long way from the dribbly, goopy, first models, and Grenco dropped in with another flower vape — G Pen Elite vaporizer.

Our previous G Pen guide had quick breakdowns of each device, but we wanted to take a full look and put together a G Pen Elite review for readers interested in G Pen’s bestselling device.

What is the G Pen Elite vaporizer?

Made specifically to vaporize dry herb, the Elite is not multi-use. It costs about $120 and is accessible online across a variety of retailers, as well as their own shop. Flower consumers will love the size of its ceramic chamber, as the Elite boasts one of the largest on the market.

What immediately stands out about the vape is its smooth but angular shape, like a maxed-out version of their cartridge pen, the Gio. Grooved sides mean it’s easier to hold and much harder to drop, which is something you may sacrifice with the more modernist type of pocket vapes.

How does G Pen Elite vaporizer work?

The dry herb vape heats up quickly and provides great airflow for hits that aren’t as weak as some competitor vapes. This is something that Grenco understands — the customer wants high vapor quality and a hit that keeps coming, not a slow leak of weed flavored air.

Packing dry herb into the heating chamber is simple, the same as other portable vaporizers. Make sure the flower is properly ground and packed in the heating chamber before closing and activating the device. Check the LED display and power button to make sure the device is off before filling or refilling.

Temperature control on the Elite is precise — a Celsius or Fahrenheit reading on the digital control takes the guesswork and color-coding out of the heating process. You can set the temperature using the LED display anywhere from 200°F up to 428°F depending on your vaporizing preferences.

The battery life is adequate and charging time completely reasonable at a few hours tops. It has USB charging, which makes charging fairly easy.

Is the G Pen good? Is the G Pen Elite worth it?

You don’t lose anything from the adjustments to the standard pocket vape that Grenco has made, namely some buttons and a sculptural shape, and it isn’t lacking anything that another similar model can provide, especially at this lower price range ($119.95).

Though pocket vapes can’t handle the volume of a tabletop model, Grenco at least tries to make it easy and foolproof with minimal headaches. This model’s ceramic chamber is far easier to clean than a metal heated vape.

These little tweaks are what makes this a good buy, and the one year warranty doesn’t hurt either.

What is the G Pen? Everything you need to know.

If it feels hard to imagine a time in vaporizer culture before G Pen products, that’s because the brand has had a huge hand in shaping the industry itself. Before G Pen burst onto the scene in 2012 with the first tank system specifically designed for “personal aromatherapy regimens,” the vaporizer industry (as well as the concentrate game itself) was in its fledgling stages. It was an opaque, sticky time. 710 cartridges overflowed with questionable quality distillates, and everyone was pretty confused about how this whole vaporizing thing even worked.

Flash forward to 2020. With their slew of game-changing, blockbuster products like the Elite flower vape, the Connect concentrate attachment, and the Roam (basically a fully portable dab rig), G Pen still wears the crown.

Known for sleek, user-friendly designs, high-quality products, and effective marketing techniques centered around celebrity collaborations, G Pen managed to maintain a reputation for putting out some of the best vaporizers in the biz.

Whether you’re looking to invest in a new vape or just curious as to what all the hype’s been about, here’s our guide to all things G Pen.

Is the G Pen good?

G Pen products showcase a winning combination of being user friendly, innovative, and on-trend. Their vapes are extremely easy to use, as they have simplified the process of vaping while providing easy-to-use temperature control much like how Apple simplified the process of computing. Products require little more than the push of a button to deliver high-quality flower and concentrate vapor in seconds.

G Pen maintains brand visibility and a handle on pop culture with constant brand and celebrity collaborations. Whether it’s recording artists like Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, or The Game, big brands like The Fader, Burton, and HUF, or street artists like Natalie Wood and Claw Money, G Pen shines in their product collaborations with the tastemakers of today.

How much is a G Pen? Is it worth the price?

At the end of the day, the most pressing question when it comes to weed tech devices is “is it worth the price?”

It depends on where you are in your experience level and weed consumption. But depending on your preferences and whether you’re looking to up your weed game, buying a G Pen device can be a wise investment.

Below, check out a little of each of the vaporizers currently available from G Pen.

The Gio Battery (Liquids)

The Gio Battery is G Pen’s answer to the pod systems hitting the market like Pax Pods and Dart Pods. Designed for exclusive interface with G Pen Gio Cartridges, which have been created in partnership with brands like Cookies, Caliva, and Humboldt Farms, the Gio Battery breaks down the concentrate vaping platform to its simplest form: insert cartridge and inhale.

Because each cartridge has been designed to burn optimally at the same temperature and voltage, there’s no need to adjust temperature control. Each hit is formulated to be a perfect — even hands-free — vaping experience.

Price: $19.95

The G Pen Pro Vaporizer (Flower)

Sleek and easy to use, the G Pen Pro is a flower vaporizer existing at the intersection of fashion and function. Single-button controls offer three temperature settings that vaporize your “ground material” in a mere 30 seconds. And at a price point below $100, it’s a feasible buy no matter how hard coronavirus hit your bank account.

Price: $89.85

The G Pen Elite (Flower)

The G Pen Elite vaporizer is like the G Pen Pro on steroids. While they both do the same thing fundamentally, which is vaporize flower, the Elite is tricked out with all the bells and whistles a future-forward stoner could want or need. Complete with an LED display with temperature control, battery life indicator, and the largest fully ceramic chamber on the market, the Elite is perfect for the health-conscious techie in all of us.

Price: $119.95

The Nova (Concentrates)

The Nova is G Pen’s easy to use concentrate vaporizer pen. Unlike many similar pens from G Pen competitors, the Nova replaced antiquated coil technology with a full-ceramic atomizer, where a patented reverse airflow and ‘check’ ball valve system generate balanced heat to the concentrate heating chamber, providing the most vapor production of any pen on the market. To put it simply, it works much better than other concentrate pens, and at a significantly lower price point than most.

Price: $34.95

The Connect (Concentrates)

The Connect is one of G Pen’s most innovative (and successful) products to date, revolutionizing the concentrate consumption market with their take on an electronic heating source for a traditional dab rig. Heating to temperature settings within five seconds of activation, a ceramic heating element fits onto any preexisting bong or dab rig, offering the same high-density vapor as a normal dab would, without the hassle and danger of a torch and exposed nail as the heating element.

Price: $149.95

The Roam (Concentrates)

Brand new and ready for summer adventures, The Roam is G Pen’s first totally portable concentrate vaporizer with a self-contained water filtration system. Basically, this device is a fully functional electronic dab rig in the form of a large, water-filled vape, and it’s compatible with any concentrate you can imagine.

The first of its kind, The Roam features a spill-proof, self-contained borosilicate glass hydrotube, a full quartz tank, and a 1300mAh lithium-ion battery that heats to temperature within seconds of activation, making for optimal temperature control and delivering perfect dab hits every time.

Price: $249.95

Where to buy G Pen products

Find G Pen products on their website, with free shipping in the US on orders over $75, or at your local dispensary. All Grenco Science electronics (chargers and batteries) are covered under a one year warranty.

Everything You Should Know About The Utillian 722

As we continue to acknowledge the unhealthy impacts carcinogens have on us, and in light of the continuing vape crisis of last year to now, the time is right for an affordable vaporizer that allows both flower and concentrate consumers to enjoy their products of choice on the go — without the worry of harmful ingredients clouding the product.

The Utillian 722 is certainly that vaporizer.

What is the Utillian 722?

The Utillian 722 is the follow-up to the award-winning Utillian 721 that made waves last year in the flower vaporizer market. With this new model, Utillian has added a concentrate canister to take things to the next level. They also tweaked a couple of features, including the angle of the mouthpiece’s point of articulation to make it a bit sturdier, and upgraded the “boost mode” an extra ten degrees to 225°C compared to 215°C on the 721. While seemingly small, that extra  kick certainly helps provide the 722 with a bit more extraction power than its predecessor.

What’s returning from the 721 is the well-built one-button simplicity. The build quality of the 722 easily rivals that of other dual-purpose vaporizers and clocks in at a cool $149.99. The finish of the 722 is not only a nice visual but also provides a firm grip. The mouthpiece feels a pinch flimsy as you turn it around into the ready position, but it pops right back on if it falls off.

Also returning from the 721 are the four preset heat settings of 180°C, 190°C, 200°C, and 210°C, but as noted, the 722 will get a bit hotter than the 721 in boost mode.

Setup

When you first get the Utillian 722, you’ll see a spread of o-rings, screens, and brushes. But fear not, it’s actually quite simple to prepare for use after charging. When you break the magnetic seal and flip over the lid, you’ll see a spot where the provided metal screen lines up. Simply line the screen up on top of the hole and pop on the red rubber ring. That will hold it in place during use.

The screen can get a pinch crooked (even with the ring on) preventing a perfectly flush magnetic seal for the whole top of the vaporizer. Pinch the sides of the ring and move the screen into proper alignment.

How to use the Utillian 722

  1. Regardless of whether you’ll be using it for flower or concentrates, pop the magnetic top off. From here you’ll be deciding whether to throw in the concentrate canister or just directly start using flower.
  2. Fill the chamber of your choosing with flower or concentrate and put the lid back on. Make sure the lid is flush.
  3. To start the actual session on the 722 you’re going to press the power button — located on the right side of the device — five times in two seconds. The unit will begin to flash as it comes up to the desired temperature.
  4. Confirm the unit heating to your desired temperature by looking at the light color, or adjust it by pressing the button twice as it heats. Green is the coolest setting and red is the hottest. When the light stops flashing you’re good to go.
  5. Inhale, but after you’ve taken a few rips you might want to try the boost mode. Just hold down the button while you take a pull and it will kick the 722 up to full blast.

Cleaning

You’re going to need to clean the 722 out with a brush each time you use it. Utillian recommends giving the chamber a deeper clean every three sessions. We suggest using 99% alcohol and q-tips for ease. Don’t cheap out on the alcohol, the lower the percentage, the less effective it is on the first pass and you don’t want any residue to drip down to the heating element.

After you clean it, dry it out completely with another q-tip. Tip: go light on the alcohol on the swab as not to void the warranty.

You can also clean all the components vapor passes through in the lid. Just remove the red rubber ring, pop off the mouthpiece and toss them in alcohol with the screens for no longer than 20 minutes. While those parts soak, use a q-tip with alcohol to clean out the air pathways in the top part of the vaporizer while it’s disassembled. After everything is clean, use warm water to rinse off, then dry each part. Never submerge the top piece of the vaporizer in alcohol.

What’s the appeal?

Smoking a joint or bowl every now and then isn’t going to kill you, but for more frequent cannabis users, the main health drawback is the amount of smoke exposure to their respiratory system. With mobile vaporizers like the Utillian 722, you’re not stuck next to a coffee table to get a quality vaping experience with a tabletop vaporizer, the mobile aspect of the 722 allows you to get a good vape session whenever you feel like it.
