Vaping has become all the rage in recent times, but there is actually a long history of vaping that far precedes its trendy subculture today. The earliest days of modern vaping were not shrouded in coolness, nor was it as youth-oriented as it appears today. Today, vaping is sometimes viewed as a hobby or leisure […]
The world is constantly evolving and new inventions are being created all of the time. Health or ease are usually the forces driving these new and impressive creations. Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook so we could connect with our friends online. Jeff Bezos created Amazon so we could purchase anything we could ever dream of. And now there’s the cannabis vaporizer.

But as the dreaded year of 2021 comes to a close, what are the top 5 cannabis vaporizers of this year? And why? Today we’ll be taking you through what these devices are, how they work, why people like them and which ones to look out for.

What is a Cannabis Vaporizer?
A cannabis vaporizer is an electric device that heats up cannabis at around 180-220 degrees without burning it. It instead warms the cannabis, turning it into vapour instead of smoke, which is then inhaled by the user. Some cannabis vaporizers can also take cannabis concentrates and hash inside them too.
There are many different types of cannabis vape, and they come in many shapes and sizes. Some are big, whilst some are small. Some look slick, whilst others look a little more industrial. Some look like light sabres, whilst others look like small radiators. But the truth is, they all work roughly the same. The bud is placed in a chamber to be heated up, and the resulting vapour is inhaled through the mouthpiece. But what are they key elements of a dry herb vaporizer?
Elements of the Cannabis Vape
The chamber is where the magic happens. The bud or cannabis concentrate is placed in the chamber, which is basically like an oven, and it’s then heated up. There are two types of heating processes: convention or conduction. Conduction heater systems heat the cannabis from below, a bit like a frying pan does. Whereas convection heater systems will heat the cannabis from all around, very similar to an oven. Each vape has different heat up times, but you can probably expect your bud to be ready to be inhaled in around 30-60 seconds. Vapour then builds up in the chamber, which can then be inhaled.
The mouthpiece is where you inhale from. You inhale from the mouthpiece, which drags the vapour from the chamber and into your mouth. Mouthpieces also come in varying shapes and sizes. Some are made from glass especially to maintain flavour.
The battery is where the power comes from. Battery life is crucial when it comes to dry herb vapes, so it’s important to have one that will give you enough battery to atleast last the day. You never know when you’ll be able to charge it again, especially if you live a busy life. The 18650mAh battery is one of the best and is even used to power Teslas.
Are Cannabis Vaporizers Legal?
Cannabis vaporizers are legal in basically all countries because they don’t actually contain any cannabis. In countries where recreational weed is legal, then it’s no suprise the cannabis vapes exist. However, in countries where recreational weed is not legal, the loophole that producers use is that the cannabis vape does not actually have to be used to consume cannabis. In fact, in the UK they are referred to as ‘dry herb vaporizers’ because they can technically be used to heat up legal kitchen herbs too. Whilst in the USA, cannabis vapes are much more accepted and known to be used for cannabis consumption. In most countries cannabis accessories are legal – like bongs and vaporizers – but cannabis is not.
What’s All The Fuss About?
There are many reasons why cannabis vaporizers have taken the cannabis industry by storm. Like all inventions, they only become successful if they put the user first, and it seems that cannabis vaporizers have done exactly that. So what’s all the fuss about?
Using a cannabis vaporizer has proven to be healthier than smoking cannabis. When a joint is lit, it burns at around 900 degrees. This is called combustion and it occurs whenever anything is burned over 240 degrees. When combustion takes place, dangerous toxins and cancerous carcinogens are released into the body and specifically into the lungs. This can cause serious problems over time. However, the vaporizer never exceeds 240 degrees, and as such does not trigger the combustion process. In fact, there’s no fire whatsoever, only heat. This means that you avoid those dangerous toxins and fumes when you’re using a cannabis vaporizer. There are of course stories of the infamous ‘popcorn lung’, which is a lung problem that occurs if you use a vaporizer over long periods of time. However, this issue is yet to be fully proven and more research needs to be done into it. The truth is, using a dry herb vaporizer is definitely healthier than smoking, but it also may have its own problems.
Another reason why vaporizers are becoming so popular is because they are easy to use. There’s no rolling involved, no creating a roach; all you have to do is turn your vape on, place the bud in the chamber and inhale. It’s extremely easy and simple. The amount of time spent rolling a joint is essentially eradicated by the purchase of a weed vape. In addition, cannabis vaporisers also don’t leave you with the same scent as a joint. They are far more discreet. Smoke can stick to your clothes and fingers, whereas vapour does not have the same effect.
Flavour & Intensity
Many prefer a cannabis vaporizer because it maintains the aromas of the cannabinoids. When cannabis is burnt, much of the flavour and some of the intensity is lost during the combustion process. However, when it only vaporises, much of this is maintained. When having a vape hit you may be surprised by the power of the bud, as well as the tastes.
Although the initial price of buying a vaporizer can be expensive, the money you’ll save after could actually make vaping cheaper than smoking. Vaping does not require tobacco, rizlas, roaches, or any of the other accessoires. This, over time, could save you a lot of money. In addition, the purity of the bud in a vape is much stronger, which means you actually end up using less cannabis. So your cannabis can also last longer than if you smoke it. There are many different vapes, for many different prices, so you don’t have to spend a fortune on one if you don’t want to.
Top 5 Cannabis Vapes of 2021
So, without further ado, here is our list of the top cannabis vapes of 2021. Remember, there are many out there, but these are the ones that stand out.
Reason: The pax 3 is probably one of the sexiest looking cannabis vapes out there. It’s a very slick looking device, it has no annoying buttons to get used to, and it even has an app that controls its temperature. Plus, the device heats in around 15 seconds, which is incredibly quick. It takes both dry herb and cannabis concentrates, which is ideal for anyone who enjoys different types of cannabis. Lastly, the Pax 3 has incredible lip sensing technology which begins heating up the moment your lips touch the mouthpiece. Whilst it is an expensive device, you get what you pay for.
Reason: The Mighty is for the more experienced of you out there, and for those that enjoy a massive cloud of vapour. The reason why this device is so popular in the US is because blowing a cloud of cannabis vapor in California won’t get you in trouble. Perhaps if you’re from a country that has yet to legalize recreational cannabis then don’t bring this outside. The Mighty is a bigger device and extremely powerful. The battery life makes this device stand out from the others. However, whilst it is included on the list, is it worth the price? That question will be left for you to decide.
Reason: The G Pen Dash is the cheapest device on this list, but it still packs a punch. It takes dry cannabis bud in it and has three settings of temperature, which although does limit you, it also simplifies the entire process of heat controls. The slick aluminium feel and neat design, makes this a very discreet looking device. The G Pen Dash has picked up the reputation as one of the best budget cannabis vapes on the market.
Reason: The Nectar Platinum comes all the way from England, which is rare for cannabis vaporizers. Especially good ones. This device has the same slickness and cool design as the pax 3, but also has a beautiful magnetic chamber, which opens and closes easily. It also has LED light controls which makes this device potentially the easiest to use. Plus, it’s a pretty moderate price in comparison with some of the others. The Nectar Platinum also takes dry bud and cannabis concentrates, which is a huge bonus.
Reason: The Magic Flight Launch Box is probably the most beautiful device of the lot. Although it’s cliche to say but, they quite literally don’t make them like this anymore. Made from wood, and completely renewable materials, this box may not pack as much of a punch as the others, but it definitely has the most heart. It was created by artisans in California, and allows you to watch you cannabis as it heats up through a small window-like design. The heating system is simple and so are the controls, but this art-piece of a device is definitely worth its minimal price.
Whether you are looking for a new cannabis vaporizer, or if you’re just interested to know more about them, then hopefully all corners have been covered today. With the cannabis industry constantly evolving and smoking becoming less popular, always remember that the cannabis vape is always an alternative option. But which is your favourite?

Pulling up to entrepreneur turned cannabis mogul Cameron Forni’s Las Vegas home feels like driving up to the entrance of a Las Vegas Strip hotel. In his driveway, a custom-decalled Ferrari stands out with a monopoly-esque art themed wrap. The wrap showcases his consulting company, an eco-friendly crypto currency, and also pays homage to the brand that started it all—Select. Parked next to it is an all-black Rolls Royce Ghost. On first impression, Cameron Forni has built quite a life as an entrepreneur.
“I’m glad you found the house!” He says jokingly as I hop out of my car and walk up his impressive driveway to the door. The 35-year-old can’t be any taller than 5-foot-9, and his unassuming black t-shirt and navy-blue shorts suggest that, even with this level of success, he’s still relatable.
We are greeted by a pair of medium-sized Pomsky’s, Meso and Cali. We make our way through the striking entryway to the kitchen where we all sit together to become more acquainted. Forni passes around a plate of avocado toast for us to snack on while we discuss his latest device for Select in the cannabis space.
We’re here to talk about the recent partnership Select launched with Rolling Stone magazine on co-branded vape pens and Select’s first-ever pre-rolls. Forni explains that his goal is to create a smooth, enjoyable experience for all cannabis users. Further, he is excited about the reach and cultural alignment between the Rolling Stone brand and music.
Rolling Stone’s president and COO Gus Wenner also speaks to the larger purpose driving the new co-branded product line.
“There’s a mission here that’s been a part of our DNA since the beginning. Music and cannabis are so connected, and we set out to make a product that is A) really good and B) strikes right at the heart of what makes experiencing great music so special,” Wenner told Cannabis Now, adding that the Rolling Stones team has spent the past three years exploring ways to create this opportunity.
“In CuraLeaf and Select, we found a perfect partner who could design innovative and exciting products that elevate the music listening experience and so much more,” he said. “We both recognize cannabis’ place in music and in history. We’ve covered the health benefits and some of the incarceration issues around how cases are treated for non-violent crime offenders in our reporting and will continue to do so.”
If legal cannabis was a baseball game, Forni insists we’d still be in the second inning of a typical nine-inning game. The black market remains too powerful for the legal industry to reach its full potential, he says. Forni also comments on the tumultuous hemp-based Delta-8 market, which he believes “is finally being cracked down on.”
The Select founder contends legal weed’s biggest boon will happen when Congress passes the SAFE Banking Act and the STATES Act, opening the way for cannabis companies to list on the New York Stock Exchange.
“It’ll change the entire financial landscape of the cannabis industry,” he says. “That’s what we’re waiting for.”
The legal cannabis Green Rush has been good to entrepreneurs like Forni, who got involved early and worked tooth-and-nail to earn significant market share. Forni founded Select back in 2015 after puffing on a marijuana vape and coughing his lungs out. This experience inspired his first business venture, and he set out to develop a smoother cartridge. Select was born.
Forni built this company from the ground up and filled his first cartridges by hand. From his living room, Forni managed to turn Select into the fastest growing cannabis brand in history. This caught the attention of the world’s largest cannabis company, Curaleaf, which purchased his company for $948 million dollars in 2019. Since the sale, Forni has stayed on as a special advisor to Curaleaf’s CEO Joe Bayern. Expanding the product line beyond its staple cartridge products, Select now also offers THC oil, gummies, tinctures and drink mixers.
Forni brings us to his office and hands over a pack of his newest edibles, “Nano Gummies.” The citrus-flavored edible is made of strain-inspired terpene formulas and are infused with cannabis oil. They are also water soluble which allows the THC to digest quicker. Their new gummies will surely be a hit across the 2,000 dispensaries in 21 states that carry Select’s products. However, Forni isn’t completely satisfied quite yet. “You can taste hints of cannabis, we can make it better,” he says.
How does a guy in Forni’s position not let all of this get to his head? We ask him how he’s changed, besides the new house and luxury lifestyle. The answer? Not much. Forni says he’s always had a bit of an edge to him. But in a good way.
“You got to keep it,” he says of his ego. “I always try to be myself; I always try to be kind to everyone around me, and I always try to teach and mentor people to bring them up to the next level. Success follows success, and I always wanted to follow the people that had success before me. I just hope I can inspire people—whether that’s a role model or a mentor—to do and achieve incredible things for themselves, their family and the planet.”
The current market for hand-held cannabis vaporizers has become intensely competitive. With all the advanced features and add-ons, you have to be honest and ask yourself: “what works for me and what’s really worth it?”
DaVinci has been an exceptional brand in the vaporizer industry since it began designing vaporizers more than five years ago. Not only does DaVinci put purity, innovation, and control at its core, it also responds to the needs of consumers with every update.
You may have seen the DaVinci IQ2 and the MIQRO vaporizers, both are highly acclaimed by cannabis vaping connoisseurs across the board. The newest release — the IQC — is the perfect balance between the two, delivering the same sleek look, but now with a shorter charging time, lower price, and an even cleaner approach to the design.
Here’s everything you need to know about the DaVinci IQC.
What is the DaVinci IQC?
The DaVinci IQC is a portable, dual-use vaporizer well-equipped with customizable, high-tech features and convenient tools. Compatible with both dry herb and concentrates, this device offers pure and precise draws that enhance the terpene flavors of your cannabis through its zirconia glass-lined ceramic oven. Long, light draws are recommended.
The IQC costs $229 — a luxurious purchase, but well worth the spend if you favor efficiency and components that make dosing easy on-the-go. The IQC also has app connectivity through bluetooth, which serves as a control and personal tracker for your temperature and usage that will soon be available on the iOS app store and online.
How is the IQC different from the IQ2?
DaVinci has been actively listening to the reviews on their previous devices, and came back with an updated product that the people have been asking for. The IQC has thoughtful upgrades and embodies a more simplified DaVinci vaping experience.
One of the main differences is the patented Sharesafe mouthpiece crafted from an FDA-approved antimicrobial polymer. Antimicrobial polymers inhibit the growth of bacteria and viruses, making this a more sanitary smoking device. In a time where we must be vigilant about hygiene, the IQC was designed with these health aspects in mind.
No more six hour charging time: Now, the IQC has longer battery life and can get a full charge in as little as two hours, thanks to the new Type C charging port.
A notable feature missing from the IQC that you’d normally find on the IQ2 is the adjustable airflow located at the bottom of the device. The adjustable airflow allows users to gauge how much air passes through the device, changeable with a dial. The IQC’s airflow is non-adjustable, meaning the vapor is more likely to get hotter.
For about $66 less than the cost of the IQ2, the IQC still offers DaVinci’s most impressive features. But keep in mind that the warranty on the IQC is good for five years instead of the ten year warranty on the IQ2. Might be considered a downgrade, but you definitely get what you pay for.
How do you use DaVinci IQC?
Let’s get into how the DaVinci IQC works and what comes with the vaporizer kit.
Zirconia “Flavor Chamber” vapor path
Replaceable 18650 battery
Onboard pick tool

Open the IQC’s bottom lid to reveal the glass-lined ceramic oven.
Pack herb tightly for maximum vapor. Close the bottom lid to allow the pearl to firmly pack the herb.
Power on/off by clicking the control button five times.
Adjust the temperature up and down with navigation buttons. Choose from the four preset ranges called “Smart Paths.” Note: the IQC is programmed to start in Smart Path 3 (390-410ºF).
IQC will vibrate when the target temperature is reached.
On the IQC, there are a couple of modes you can play around with.
Smart Path Mode: There are four “Smart Paths” preset with temperatures that’ll gradually build over eight minutes. Adjust between paths with navigation buttons.
Rest: 410 – 430ºF
Body: 390 – 410ºF
Mind: 370 – 390ºF
Flavor: 350 – 370ºF
Precision Mode: With temperature accuracy up to +/- one degree, you can choose an exact temperature. Click the control button to display the current temperature, then use the navigation buttons to adjust to your temperature preference.
Is the DaVinci IQC worth it?
The intent behind the design of the IQC is what truly makes this device worth buying. The IQC was created with the consumer needs and health safety in mind without making the product more expensive — instead, DaVinci made it more affordable. It’s the ultimate combination of the simplest yet cutting-edge technology, which translates into an ideal vaporizer for just about anyone.
Sometimes the extra bells and whistles aren’t necessary on a vaporizer and all you really need are top-notch materials and technology to ensure a divine vaping experience. The IQC is practical, high-quality, and now that its iOS app software will be available soon, there’s a lot to love about this device.
International cannabis powerhouse Curaleaf announced on Tuesday that its Select brand will market co-branded cannabis products under a new strategic partnership with pop culture and music authority Rolling Stone. The deal will initially bring “Rolling Stone by Select” branded vaporizer products and pre-rolled joints to Nevada, with plans to expand to other regulated cannabis markets in the future.
“Rolling Stone and Select are creating a groundbreaking partnership that will showcase our next generation hardware [and] America’s best-selling premium cannabis oil while curating an exclusive relationship between music, cannabis and culture,” Select founder and president Cameron Forni wrote in an electronic message to Cannabis Now.
The new line of Rolling Stone by Select products will include Select’s newest proprietary cannabis oil vaporizer pod system, The Cliq, as well as Select’s first ever pre-rolled joint. Both product formats will feature three different “strains and flavor profiles hand-selected by Rolling Stone to celebrate some of the most well-known and genre-defining artists and sounds in music history,” Curaleaf wrote in a press release. The line includes Overdrive, berry-forward sativa; a complex and full-bodied indica known as Reverb; and a fruity, calming hybrid marketed under the moniker Phaser. The products will be distributed through Select’s wholesale partners and at Curaleaf dispensaries, including Acres by Curaleaf and Curaleaf Las Vegas Boulevard.
“Music and Cannabis go hand in hand,” said Rolling Stone president and chief operating officer Gus Wenner, noting that the company has a legacy of celebrating this connection and a history of covering cannabis policy reform efforts.
“We are thrilled to have found a perfect partner in Curaleaf who gives us the opportunity to design a product that elevates the music listening experience and celebrates the deep connection between the two.”
Music Icon Teams with Cannabis Powerhouse
Curaleaf and Select made headlines in 2019 when they joined forces in what was at the time the cannabis industry’s largest merger deal in history. Today, Curaleaf operates in 23 states with 106 cannabis dispensaries, 23 cultivation sites, and more than 30 processing sites, with a workforce of nearly 5,000 in the United States. Curaleaf International is the largest vertically integrated cannabis company in Europe, conducting pioneering scientific research integrated with a unique supply chain including cultivation, extraction and production, as well as a distribution network across the European market.
“Part of my job at Curaleaf is building brands people love. Select is a brand built around the relentless pursuit of progress and going to great lengths to create the best possible experience for our consumer,” Curaleaf CEO Joe Bayern said in a statement from the company. “This is a synergy we are honored to share with Rolling Stone. They are known for having one of the most authentic and discerning voices in modern journalism, and, as part of that, they’ve included cannabis in their coverage for the past 50 years – something many other publications are only just starting to do today. We’re honored and thrilled that the Rolling Stone team believes in our vision, our products and our people to create and deliver the highest-quality cannabis products and experiences in the industry.”
Putting Social Equity into Practice
Bayern told Cannabis Now in an email that Rolling Stone and Curaleaf have an opportunity to use their combined platforms to advance social equity issues including reducing mass incarceration and ensuring that all entrepreneurs, especially those belonging to communities adversely affected by the War on Drugs, have an opportunity to participate in the legal cannabis economy.
“Since our inception, Curaleaf has been dedicated to putting its best foot forward for each other, our customers and our communities. We truly believe in shaping a healthy, inclusive, well-regulated cannabis industry that provides for social, financial and environmental benefits shared by all,” Bayern said. “Throughout Curaleaf’s network and supply chain, we’re constantly looking for ways to support equal access and opportunity for communities impacted by the War on Drugs so that everyone has the chance to participate in the regulated cannabis industry.”
Bayern noted that Curaleaf’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, called “Rooted in Good,” is grounded on three core pillars: social equity; sustainability; and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). Through the program, Curaleaf strives to deliver social impact through focused efforts that match the company’s capabilities and prioritize resources for social equity programming that deliver real opportunities.
“As a part of that work, we engage in strategic partnerships activating programs that foster opportunity and remove systematic barriers for communities most harmed by the War on Drugs and cannabis criminalization,” Bayern said. “Regarding our partnership with Rolling Stone, we are excited to explore conversations with their CSR team around future endeavors to further advance cannabis social equity issues and bring about change in a positive way.”
Curaleaf also revealed that the partnership would launch a new retail concept inspired by “Select’s commitment to enriching communities and creating inclusive, meaningful experiences and Rolling Stone’s world class storytelling and culture-defining content.” The retail location is expected to open in Las Vegas in 2022, with further details to be announced later.
Most things in life are more complicated than they need to be. Don’t make hemp use one of them. E1011 Labs’ innovative vaporizer system allows you to appreciate all the benefits of whole flower hemp—any time, any place.
Inhalation is a popular means of gaining CBD relief, as the effects take over within minutes. Edible supplements, on the other hand, can take hours to kick in. But inhalation practices are by no means new—ancient cultures were dialed into their benefits for millennia before modern cultures began to truly explore their merit.
Inspired by these age-old methods of holistic medicine, the founders of E1011 Labs wanted to use modern tech and science to harness the same benefits of inhalation, but on a more advanced level. As a result, the Elon Vaporizer was born: a sleek and simple device that uses advanced technology to deliver CBD in a healthy and effective manner wherever you are.
For those new to smoking hemp (or just looking to upgrade), the Elon Starter Kit has everything you need. Read on to find out why we are such fans of this portable, whole flower hemp vaporizer.
The Elon Starter Kit
The Elon Starter Kit includes the Elon vaporizer, a C-type USB charger, and two packs of whole flower hemp cartridges (Stem Uplift and Stem Relax). Available in grey and silver finishes, the Elon’s polished metal exterior instantly caught our eye as a minimalist dream. E1011 Labs’ dedication to precise form and function is reflected in the clean design of all their products in this kit.
We were pleasantly surprised with how easily Elon fits in a pocket or bag compared to its competitors. Rather than using processed oils, both Stem varieties are made from full-spectrum whole hemp flower. The Stem cartridges come in a recycled paper box of 20, thoughtfully designed to prevent spillage and pre-dosed for ease of use and consistency you can count on. Individual cartridges are biodegradable and provide an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional plastic vape cartridge. These small touches of intentional design made for a strong first impression.
The Science: Innovative Heating
One of the Elon’s most advanced features is its concentric heating method. The device gently activates cannabinoids and terpenes within the hemp flower for high bioavailability, meaning you will experience stronger effects more quickly. Quality of extraction is obvious when using the device: the draw is smooth, satisfying, and most importantly, we noticed effects in minutes.
Innovation is at the forefront of E1011 Labs. When developing the Elon, designers opted for a blowhole rather than a button to pause and restart sessions. This allows for better control over heating. Plus, users can have peace of mind knowing the Elon won’t accidentally turn on in a bag or pocket. Small choices like this make Elon a must-have for us. Lastly, we love the novelty in E1011 Labs’ Stem design—slim paper cartridges add a sense of whimsy and nostalgia to an otherwise modern device.
Simplicity You Can Count On
The Elon is here to make your life easier. Although we love to talk about advanced systems and cleaner extraction, the standout feature for us is this device’s simplicity. The vaporizer fully charges in just 30 minutes and lasts 10-15 sessions. Because no combustion takes place, you don’t have to worry about smoke or ash either. Pre-dosed cartridges eliminate hassle, and a third-party certificate of analysis ensures trust. The cherry on top: the Elon is self-cleaning.
Overall, the Elon Starter Kit stands out as a premium on-the-go alternative to processed oils. Without the hassle of grinding and rolling, we were able to sit down and truly enjoy our CBD experience. Even the staunchest self-rollers will be hard pressed to find fault in E1011 Labs’ revolutionary system. Everything about the Elon feels streamlined and intuitive. It’s a straightforward system that we will certainly keep coming back to.
The Dipstick Vapes’ Dipper is a handheld dab device used to vaporize concentrates. The first of its kind, this portable dab pen has dual functions, and both produce thick clouds. It looks and handles like other handheld vape pens, and gets the job done as good or better than a more traditional rig and torch setup.
The Dipper uses an internal, rechargeable battery and the choice of two different atomizers, one of which lets you dab straight from the concentrate container. The other atomizer can be used to pre-load concentrate.
Below, find out everything you need to know about the innovative Dipper.
How does it work?
The Dipper is as easy to use as it is to hit. One main button controls the operations, which work the same with either atomizer included in the setup. Press the button five times to turn it on or off — the light will blink through the colors as visual confirmation. Press and hold the main button to activate the heating cycle — which lasts up to 15 seconds before automatic cool down — indicated by the light shutting off. There is an auto shut-off after two minutes of inactivity for safety and to save battery. Note: it is not safe to use the device while charging.
Two vapor dip tip atomizers
Quartz crystal atomizer
There are three temperature settings to choose from: blue (low), green (medium), and red (high), ranging from 450°F (green) to 600°F (red). Press the main button three times to change between the temperature settings, and the selected color will flash.
How to use the atomizer dip tip
The Dipper package includes two atomizer tips, one of which will already come connected to the device. This is the tip that allows you to dab right from the concentrate container, no loading necessary. Press and hold to activate the heat, then gently touch the tip to the concentrate and inhale slowly from the other end of the Dipper.
How to use the quartz atomizer
The quartz crystal atomizer can be swapped in for the atomizer tip to use as a pre-loaded vape. The quartz crystal atomizer has a deep chamber where a small amount of concentrate can be loaded (not too much), and then the mouthpiece cover is placed over the atomizer.
Depending on how gooey your wax concentrate is, it’s a good idea to keep the device upright once it is loaded. When ready to use, select your preferred temperature setting and hold the button down to activate the heat. After a few seconds, inhale slowly through the mouthpiece that covers the internal quartz crystal atomizer.
The Dipstick Dipper’s unique design
Everything fits together securely and feels sturdy, and switching between the atomizers is easy. The dual end mouthpiece is clever, allowing consumers to use either the mouthpiece cap with the pack and go quartz atomizer, or the built-in mouthpiece with the dip tip atomizer.
The dip tip is a more precise hit to maximize flavor, or otherwise customize your dab. On the dip tip, the heat coils are well contained and don’t feel dangerous, but any semi-exposed heat source requires caution. Similarly, the temperature range is high, so it can be easy to overdo it and feel and taste the burn. It’s so efficient that gently inhaling is enough to get thick, stoney clouds.
How do you clean it?
Cleaning the device and all of its parts is simple. The atomizers can be removed from the device and soaked in alcohol for an hour and then rinsed off to remove sticky residue. The included long cotton swabs can be used with alcohol to clean the inside of the device and any touch points that may accumulate residue. A thorough cleaning after every few uses, or whenever you notice build up, is recommended.
What’s the appeal?
Overall this is a thoughtfully designed and versatile device that makes dabbing fun. It packs a powerful punch and gets the job done. Avoiding the mess of loading and sticky tools is a big plus. Another feature is how portable it is; it’s comparable in size to other vape pens with a discreet design. The versatility that the internal quartz atomizer offers is significant too, making it possible to have easy pack-and-go dabs within one small device.
At $115 it’s a steal for anyone who wants to try dip dabbing and/or wants a discreet portable way to enjoy dabs.
Vaporizers are a much healthier way of smoking marijuana and they provide a cleaner way to inhale THC which is the active ingredient in cannabis that produces psychoactive effects, aka makes you high. Depending on your preference, vaporization can be done with or without nicotine products. One of the benefits of vaporization is that you […]
After years of producing sturdy vaporizers for the dry herb crowd, Canadian-based UItillian just dropped their latest with the Utillian 5 which features a glass bubbler attachment.
The affordable option for raw concentrates can’t come soon enough. Over the last year, more and more consumers have begun to experiment with a variety of new cannabis products they might not have if they weren’t stuck at home all day. High on the list of these cool things is boutique hash that is on a different level than anything in a cartridge.
In Utillian’s new wax pen, you’re looking at something a step up from the biggest discount options while remaining very affordable. Here’s everything you need to know about the Utillian 5.
What is the Utillian 5?
The Utillian 5 is a mid-market wax pen. It’s essentially a more beefed-out version of the Utillian 2 with a lot more bells and whistles for little less than double the price, but you should still be looking at $69.99 for the whole kit. So if you can’t shell out for some of the more popular electronic dab rigs of the moment, the Utillian 5 presents a great option.
It will generally let you take beefier hits on the coil than in the ceramic chambers of competitors. What you sacrifice in flavor you make up for in volume. With the bubbler attachment it’s certainly a bit smoother, but you’re still getting the same quality of flavor off of the coil.
How does the Utillian 5 work?
After the initial charge, getting your Utillian 5 ready to go is a breeze. Just plug in the included micro USB and wait for the bar to fill up and stop blinking. The battery display will glow solid when it’s fully charged.
Before you use any vaporizer for the first time, it’s always a good idea to swab off the atomizer and mouthpiece parts with a swab with a couple drops of isopropyl alcohol. Then burn it off a few times following the steps below. If you plan on cranking out rips in the Utillian 5, you’re probably going to want to get some Glob Mops. They’ll be sturdier on the coil and you won’t end up trying to vape q-tips.
After you’ve prepped the device for its inaugural digital dabs, it won’t take long to get the party started.
Pull off the mouthpiece and spit guard to expose the atomizer coil and place a small amount of BHO or rosin on the coil. Utillian recommends a piece of concentrate the size of a grain of rice, but our research found you can go a bit beefier than that, especially if you’re using the triple titanium coil. The Jumbo Kanthal coil is actually for single use sessions despite the name.
Press the power button five times to activate the device.
Press the button twice to set the Utillian 5 to one of the four voltage options: lower voltage provides more flavor, while the higher settings will produce bigger rips.
Once you’ve settled on your preferred voltage, hold down the button to start heating the concentrate. When you see the LEDs start to turn white you can take a hit. It will automatically stop heating after ten seconds. You can adjust the airflow ring below the atomizer to find the draw that’s right for you.
How to clean the Utiliian 5
Utillian told us that when cleaning your coils with alcohol on a swab — whether it’s the Kanthal coil or the Triple Titanium — you have to make sure you fire the coil without any product in it. The core will absorb the alcohol, and if that happens, it can take a bit of time and attention to get it out.
Utillian also recommend cranking up the temperature after cleaning your unit and fire it several times after the coil is thoroughly dried to remove any residue and alcohol that may still be in the coils. This is even more important with the Kanthal coil because its black ceramic center may have absorbed some of the alcohol.
The heating will also help sanitize your coil and remove any leftover cleaning product from the coil itself.
What’s the appeal?
What you’ll get with the Utillian 5 is a solid bare-bones concentrate vape with a few extras, like a bigger battery and multiple coil options. You’ll be able to smoke most of the high-end concentrates on the market too, except for sauce.
And if you really enjoy the Utillian 5, then you’ll know whether or not it’ll be worth a few hundred bucks to get your hands on one of the more elite concentrate vaporizers out there, like the Peak Pro or Carta.
The Volcano by Storz & Bickel is one of the most iconic vaporizers of all time. With its volcano-shaped base and plastic plume full of vapor, this desktop vaporizer went viral before going viral was a thing.
Having permeated stoner culture in the late 90s and early 2000s, it remained nestled in the soft folds of our collective nostalgia, frozen in the ashes of the past like Tamagotchis, low-rise denim, and the ancient city of Pompeii. That is, until the respected vape gods at Storz & Bickel delivered us the Volcano Hybrid, a sleek, smart, and future forward upgrade that’s getting the cannabis industry erupting with excitement once more.
By toning down the hokey-ness of the original design — without making the device too serious — and adding intuitive technological controls, the Volcano Hybrid feels like a grown-up version of the classic model.
Just as the past twenty years saw us mature and make it to the other side smarter, cooler, and (much) better looking, so it did our trusty old friend. Here’s everything you need to know about the Volcano Hybrid.
What is the Volcano Hybrid vaporizer?
The Volcano Hybrid is a flower vaporizing system with a volcano-shaped base that uses convection heat to vaporize ground material. In the original design, a large plastic easy-valve balloon bag was filled with vapor before being inhaled and passed around. While the Volcano Hybrid obviously does this as well, it also includes a tube kit to take the silliness of the giant vapor bag out of the equation, letting you hit it like a normal vaping system.
Aside from technological upgrades like LED controls, app capability and other trimmings that take it from the analog age to our current digital era, the addition of the tube kit is the biggest change to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the device. It elevates the Volcano experience, and this elevation particularly lends itself to a Storz & Bickel device, as they produce some of the highest quality vaporizers on the market that are specifically designed for everyday use.
What can you vape with the Volcano Hybrid?
The Volcano Hybrid is compatible with finely ground flower, and also contains a drip pad for use with concentrates.
How do you use the Volcano Hybrid?
Now that you’re familiar with the Volcano Hybrid, how does it work?
Volcano base (hot air generator)
Normal screen set
Easy valve balloon with mouthpiece
Filling chamber with cap
Assembly of the tube and balloon elements
Plug in the Volcano base making sure you put the Volcano on a sturdy, level surface near an outlet.
Remove the filling chamber cap. Unscrew the top from the bottom.
Grind flower. Make sure the flower is ground completely so the hot air has as little surface area to vaporize when the air moves through as possible.
Fill the chamber with the ground flower, then screw on the filing chamber cap. Do not fill too tightly, it should be loose enough for air to pass through easily, not completely packed.
Attach tube kit or balloon to the top of the filling chamber.
How to use the tube kit
Tap the heat button to turn on.
Choose temperature using the (+) and (-) buttons.
Preheat for 5 seconds — it will vibrate when ready.
Tap the air button.
Inhale from tube mouthpiece.
How to use the balloon
Tap the heat button to turn on.
Choose temperature using the (+) and (-) buttons.
Preheat for 5 seconds — will vibrate when ready.
Tap the air button.
Stay conscious of vapor density in the balloon.
It’s important that the balloon does not become too full of vapor, if it’s getting taught to the touch it’s time to stop filling.
Remove the full balloon unit. Never leave the filling chamber on the Volcano — beware, as this is a very hot surface.
Attach the mouthpiece to the valve on the balloon.
Inhale — passing optional.
The Volcano Hybrid arrives set to 356°F, which is a great place to start since the ideal temperature to vaporize ground flower is around 350°F. While it’s true that the higher the vaporization temperature, the faster the person vaporizing may experience their high, it kind of negates the entire point of vaping in the first place. Not only do you sacrifice important factors like flavor and vapor smoothness, it’s easy to scorch the flower and eviscerate all the terpenes this method of intake is designed to preserve.
Note that when using the tube, it’s a way more intense delivery method than the balloon, so keep the temperature around 350°F to ensure the best-quality vapor and overall experience.
Storz & Bickel App
If you have an Android, the Storz & Bickel App is pretty cool. You can control your Volcano Hybrid, get firmware updates, adjust auto shutoff, create workflows, and personalize settings. However, if you don’t have an Android 6 or above, there is a web version users can access.
Is the Volcano Hybrid worth it?
The appeal of the Volcano Hybrid is that it’s a really fun and well-executed upgrade of one of stoner culture’s favorite vaporizers. While it has hugely improved tech-wise, it’s still a really simple and straight-forward device, making it great for any level of user from novice to expert. The improvement on the analog version made it better and more current without all the unnecessary tech-y add ons.
With the addition of the tube, the Volcano ascends from the hazy den of your parent’s house to the coffee table of your very chic and adult apartment. Potent, discreet, and sexy, the Volcano Hybrid’s all grown up.
