Can Cannabis Cause Psychosis?

Can cannabis cause psychosis? Public health busybodies will list negative aspects of cannabis as an argument either against legalization or for the “public health” model of legalization (which, in Canada’s case, has been a complete failure). So if you’re playing public health bingo, you can stamp psychosis next to anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disease, and other “harms” associated with cannabis. Of course, only .047% of cannabis consumers seek medical help for psychosis. So what’s the rationale behind this belief? Or is […]

Cannabis Public Health Harms Debunked

Cannabis‘ public health harms need a thorough debunking. We’ve covered the cannabis industry‘s public health problem before. But now we’ve got a recent review of existing studies. And the results are favourable for us and unfavourable for public health prohibitionists. Of course, the problem is “public health” itself. Like “public education,” it confuses the state for civil society. It assumes that individual adults, private organizations, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other agencies cannot determine and provide quality and accessible healthcare. […]

Did Portugal Really Decriminalize Drugs?

Did Portugal really decriminalize drugs? This seems like an obvious answer. In 2001, the European country decriminalized drugs. While possession and use were (and still are) technically illegal, the authorities treat it as a public health issue rather than a criminal offence. The success of this program has prompted other jurisdictions, such as British Columbia, to try their hand at decriminalization. However, there are substantial differences between the two. Whereas Portugal has over sixty therapeutic communities designed to eliminate addictive […]

Cannabis Use Increases Risk of Heart Disease, Study Says

A recent American College of Cardiology study says daily cannabis use increases the risk of heart disease. Particularly coronary artery disease (CAD), which is the most common form of heart disease. The study, which analyzed data from 175,000 people, said cannabis consumers are 34% more likely to develop the heart condition. The researchers claim tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) interacts with the body’s blood vessels promoting inflammation and plaque buildup. The study did not distinguish between smoking, vaping, edibles, or extracts. The researchers […]

Thank You Plant Medicine Day: 5 Plants to Thank

February 20th is “Thank You Plant Medicine Day” where we celebrate the benefits and healing properties of plant medicine. Of course, this is a grassroots movement. The United Nations decrees May 12th as the “International Day of Plant Health,” where they seek to raise global awareness on “how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.” Notice how “medicine” is missing from this list. As well as thinking we can […]

Can Drugs Hijack Your Brain?

With legal cannabis across Canada and drugs like fentanyl and heroin decriminalized in British Columbia, the question remains: can drugs hijack your brain? It’s an all-too-common belief among so-called “experts” and the general public. The general idea is that drugs (or food, gambling, porn, etc.) can “hijack” the brain’s dopamine pathways and essentially compel you to behave a certain way. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in the brain’s reward system. The brain releases it in response […]

This Activity is Dangerous

This activity is dangerous. Full stop. On average, approximately 42,000 people in North America die of it every year. Lack of experience plays a critical role. Newcomers may not have the skills or knowledge to handle certain situations. They may not anticipate the hazards we associate with this activity. They may have difficulty navigating unfamiliar experiences. A lack of knowledge of the laws and regulations can lead to mistakes. A lack of confidence in their abilities can lead to unwise […]

British Columbia Decriminalizes Drugs

Today is the day British Columbia decriminalizes drugs. Although Canada’s province of British Columbia hasn’t decriminalized all drugs, psilocybin mushrooms and Lysergamides like LSD remain illegal. But adults can possess up to 2.5 grams of: Methamphetamine MDMA Cocaine (including crack cocaine) Opioids (including heroin, fentanyl and morphine) Decriminalizing these drugs is part of a three-year pilot program by the federal government. The exemption expires on January 31, 2026, unless the government revokes it. British Columbia decriminalization of drugs is similar […]

More Weed, More Problems?

More weed, more problems? As in, if you smoke all day, everyday, your life is likely a hot mess with no hope of redemption? According to recent research from CU Boulder, the answer to “more weed, more problems” is no. According to researchers, legalizing recreational cannabis at the state level does not lead to an increase in substance use disorders. Or even increased use of illicit drugs among adults. In fact, it may even decrease issues related to alcohol abuse. […]

10 Ways Most Cannabis Research is False

Most cannabis research is false. A bold statement. So what does it mean? In 2005, Stanford University professor John Ioannidis published the paper “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False.” In it, he argued that most published research findings are false due to a combination of factors such as small sample sizes, inadequate adjustment for multiple comparisons, and conflicts of interest. The paper made quite an uproar in the scientific community. While some criticized Ioannidis for simplifying the problem, most […]
