Best Cyber Monday Deals on Delta-8 THC – $9.99 Delta-8 THC Vape Carts

After three days of crazy Black Friday sales, we thought nothing could suprize us more. However, this year the Cyber Monday deals on Delta-8 THC products are even BETTER than the ones we saw on Black Friday! Which is great news for us all…

As Delta-8 THC is still a new thing, not many product types have been developed yet. The main categories we can see mature products are: Delta-8 THC vape cartridges, Delta-8 THC gummies and Delta-8 THC tinctures and Delta-8 THC flowers. While other product types exist, there is just not enough variety to have good products. Never-the-less, the speed this industry is evolving, and the fact it is supported by the mature hemp industry, makes us believe that by Christmass we will have many more products to cover.

The Best Cyber Monday Deals On Delta-8 THC Products

The best deal we have found is $9.99 Delta-8 THC vape carts, an amazing price for a high level product. Then there are some really nice BOGO deals, allowing you to stock-up on premium products. Last, but not least, we saw great opportunities on bulk orders, exactly what is expected from Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.

As always, these deals are shared with the subscribers of the Delta 8 Weekly newsletter, also getting our exclusive coupons. If you want to save on Delta 8 products, you should join today (it’s free, use the sign-in form below), as we always get the BEST products for our members!

3 Delta-8 THC Flowers You Must Try This Black Friday

As Black Friday deals has finally arrived, we have found 3 Delta-8 THC flowers you should buy now, as they are on sale due to the holidays. As always, the best deals are reserved for the subscribers of the CBD Flowers Weekly newsletter, so subscribe below and get yourself the best available Delta-8 infused hemp flowers.

What exactly are Delta-8 THC flowers

Unlike CBD flowers (naturaly occuring high-CBD hemp flowers), or CBG flowers (the same, only with high levels of CBGa instead of CBDa), Delta-8 THC flowers are not grown but created as by infusing hemp flowers with Delta-8 THC. This is becaause CBD, CBG or even Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 is a rare cannabinoid, so ‘Delta-8 THC flowers’ can’t be grown, yet. Therefor, for the creation of Delta-8 THC flowers, we take hemp-derived Delta-8 THC discillate and use it to convert a regular hemp flowers into a Delta 8 one.

As a result, Delta-8 THC flowers usually have both high levels of CBD and Delta-8, or, if a high-CBGa hemp starin was picked, the flowers are called ‘Exotic Delta-8’ and contains both high levels of CBGa and Delta-8. Therefor, when buying Delta-8 flowers, you should start by choosing whether you want it to also have high CBG or CBD levels, as these two produce different effects.

If you have never tried Delta-8 THC product, you will be surprised from the new experience waiting for you. Delta 8 THC is just not the same as Delta 9 THC, so smoking Delta 8 flowers provides a completely new experience. Some find it a better, as it is less ‘heavy’ on the head and it provokes no paranoia or anxiety, sometimes coming when taking too-much THC.

As a new discovery, only arrived to the markets lately, it is still somewhat difficult to find quality Delta-8 THC flowers. But this situation has been changing over the last few months, and now we know exactly where to get the best ones for our readers. Black Friday offers us a great opportunity to try these new products, as their price is lower than ever!

Investing in Delta 8 THC Flowers – Is It The Right Move For Your Business?

On the surface, Delta-8 Flowers are obviously cannabis flowers that are high in Delta 8 THC, but past that it gets a bit more complicated. Are they marijuana or hemp flowers? In what form is Delta 8 present in the plant? And what’s the market for this type of product?

Although good old fashioned flowers will always be the industry’s cornerstone product, specialty items are increasing in popularity and there’s always a new weed-related trend on the horizon: Enter Delta 8 THC Flowers – taking classic flowers to a new, and technically legal, level.

Delta 8 THC Flowers, which can be processed into prerolled joints, cigars, and concentrates, are very different what you would find at a legal, walk-in dispensary or delivery service. In a storefront, you’d be looking at marijuana, which is the type of cannabis that’s high in Delta 9 THC. Delta 9 is the standard THC associated with the psychoactive effects of marijuana.

Delta 8 flowers, on the other hand, are not marijuana at all. They’re actually hemp flowers infused with Delta 8 THC. This innovative new product is very much in demand in the United States, and it’s starting to hit the radar of some other markets across the globe.

To learn more about Delta 8 and get deals on flower and other products, subscribe to the Delta 8 Weekly Newsletter

Delta 8 vs Delta 9

From a chemical standpoint, Delta 8 THC is very similar to Delta 9; Delta 8 has a double bond on it’s 8th carbon chain, as opposed to Delta 8 which has it on the 9th. In the raw plant, Delta 8 is only present in trace amounts. To get the full effects, Delta 8 must be extracted from either high-THC marijuana or low-THC hemp.

Much like every compound found in cannabis, Delta-8 has quite a few medical benefits, some unique to this cannabinoid and some the same as others in the plant. It has only recently made its way into the mainstream in the U.S., but Israeli studies on Delta 8 THC date back to the early 1970s when Raphael Mechoulam was in the early stages of his comprehensive medical cannabis studies.

As far as effects go, Delta-8 is on par with Delta 8, albeit not quite as intense, and without the paranoid, anxious effects. This makes it a suitable option for cannabis users who have issues with the anxiety produced by Delta 9.

Is it legal?

The ability to source Delta-8 from industrial hemp – as opposed to marijuana – created a legal loophole that allows it to be sold by online retailers in the United States. Although there was no mention of Delta 8 specifically, it was the 2018 Farm bill that inadvertently allowed for Delta 8.

According to the bill, also known as the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, “All derivatives, isomers, and cannabinoids in hemp are legal provided that the final products contain less than 0.3% delta 9 THC.”

This was further updated by new rules in the summer of 2020. The first bullet point of this update reads as follows: “It modifies 21 CFR 1308.11(d)(31) by adding language stating that the definition of “Tetrahydrocannabinols” does not include “any material, compound, mixture, or preparation that falls within the definition of hemp set forth in 7 U.S.C. 1639o.”

Again, the language doesn’t legalize Delta 8 outright, but it solidifies the fact that any substances extracted from legal industrial hemp are not categorized as “THC” by U.S. law.

When it comes to the online cannabis industry, a grey area is as good as legal and once the consumer demand became apparent, retailers were quick to hop on board. Currently, Delta-8 is ILLEGAL (with specific laws in place against it) in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, and Nebraska. It can be legally shipped to any other one of the continental United States and Hawaii.

Are Delta 8 THC Flowers a good investment?

Naturally, this is always one of the first questions that arises when any new cannabis trend makes the rounds – is it good for business? Legalized Religiously – How Rastafari Tradition Is Helping Ease Cannabis Regulation in the Caribbean

Throughout history, cannabis has established itself as a popular recreational tool and powerful medicine, used in these ways worldwide according to local culture. For the Rastafari, though, it’s also a part of their religious tradition. As cannabis laws are reassessed globally, the push for religious freedom has helped loosen regulation for the Caribbean communities.

The Rastafarian traditions aren’t actually about big dreads, singing reggae, and Bob Marley smoking a cannabis joint on the cover of a magazine. Although, as Rastafarianism’s biggest star, Bob Marley’s peaceful attitude and timeless music have sure gone a long way to promote the cause. The Rastafari tradition was born from Jamaican national hero, Marcus Garvey, who spoke of a new king coming forth in Africa.

When Ras Tafari Makonnen (better known to many as Haile Selassie) was crowned the king of Ethiopia in 1930, it seemed a fulfillment to this prophesy. Those who followed Garvey and had taken his words as a prophesy, named themselves as a movement in the name of the new ruler, using his given name Ras Tafari.

While early Rastafarianism was more controversial, it morphed over time into a peaceful movement with its own interpretations of the bible. For them, the promised land is Zion, which is Ethiopia, where mankind was born, or just as a spiritual concept. Their god is Jah, and the ‘tree of life’ is seen as a representation of the cannabis plant. Contrary to popular belief, Rastas generally frown on using weed to get high, and use it themselves only as part of religious rituals to promote oneness and spirituality.

When cannabis was illegalized all over the world in the 1900’s, the Caribbean Islands were no exception, and the plant that had come to symbolize religious belief and ritual for so many, was made illegal. This continued on for some time, and only recently, as much of the world changes tone with cannabis regulation, have laws been changing in this sector of the world as well, pushed forward by the Rastafarian movement and the desire for religious freedom.

How have things been changing?

Jamaica

The desire to change legislation was building for some time. Jamaica was the first in the region to make big changes in 2015, by decriminalizing personal use amounts of up to two ounces, allowing home cultivation of up to five plants, and establishing a medical cannabis program. This came about because of reforms to the Jamaican Constitution in 2011 that included a new act called the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.

This was more powerful than the Dangerous Drugs Act which had been the legal basis for illegalizing cannabis. When the new law passed in 2015, it also included a provision that exempts possession of cannabis for religious purposes for the Rastafarian religion. Along with this, cannabis can be grown for religious purposes with permission from the Justice Minister, who must be satisfied that the applicants are indeed Rastafarians. This exemption also goes for events of celebration in the faith.

Barbados

In 2019, Barbados passed the Medical Cannabis Industry Bill that paves the way for legal medical cannabis, as well as provisions for those in the Rastafarian sect to be able to practice their religious rituals in peace, according to Attorney General Dale Marshall.

He went on to say: “I have taken to Cabinet and I have got Cabinet’s approval for the preparation of a bill to bring to this chamber which will facilitate the use by members of the Rastafarian faith of cannabis for the purpose of their religion… For us to continue to prohibit that, would be to continue to breach their fundamental constitutional rights. And not just rights guaranteed by the Barbados Constitution, but rights guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.”

The new laws come with provisions that must be met in order for Rastafarians to use cannabis legally for their religious practices. Nonetheless, the country of Barbados now accepts cannabis use as a part of the Rastafarian religion and concedes that limiting the ability of Rastas to practice their religion as they please, is an infringement on religious rights.

Barbados Poised To Legalize Medical Cannabis

Bahamas

Though legislation has not changed yet in the Bahamas, the Bahamas National Commission on Marijuana released recommendations for decriminalization, medical use, and religious use. The Commission recommended developing a Rastafari council that could regulate use within the community.

Saint Lucia

Not every sect of the Rastafarian movement is happy to be patient about cannabis changes. Take Saint Lucia, where the Rastafarian community threatened to sue the government citing violations to the constitutional and human rights of the members of the group. The The Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari (ICAR) claims that their freedom of religion is protected by the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. ICAR leader Aaron Alexander had said he would take the government to court if it did not recommend legalization after reports from the Saint Lucia Cannabis Commission were submit.

A new Cannabis Commission was created in November 2019. The commission will aid the government in developing a framework for the legislative and regulatory changes for allowing restricted cannabis use.

And the other advantages….

These days, reassessing your country’s weed laws is the new thing to do, and wild changes have been made across the board, particularly in places like Africa where countries like Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Zambia have quickly updated their legislation in order to take advantage of the new and booming weed economy.

One of the commonalities of the African changeover is that every country thus far in that region to update their cannabis policy, did so with an emphasis on legalizing cultivation for medicinal cannabis, and the exportation of it. While many of the Caribbean communities push to legalize cannabis so they can practice their religion as they see fit, others seem to have their eye on the economic aspect.

Hemp Market Growth Predictions: $26.6 Billion By 2025

The US Virgin Islands just decriminalized personal use amounts and medical cannabis in their Medical Cannabis Patient Care Act, with specific legislation to allow people from outside to come to the Virgin Islands to receive treatment. Governor Albert Bryan Jr is now pushing for an amendment to legalize cannabis on the entire island and allow free smoking therein. Instead of calling it ‘recreational’ cannabis, they call it ‘non-prescribed’ cannabis. With this legislation there is hope for turning the Virgin Islands into a medical cannabis tourism hotspot geared toward Americans and Europeans.

In 2017 Bermuda decriminalized personal use of up to seven grams. More recently, it released a blueprint for the establishment of a domestic medical cannabis industry. As Attorney General Kathy Simmons says, it will create new business opportunities for locals, while also attracting foreign investment. Simmons went on to say, “This government is not only expecting to attract international investment under this new scheme, it is designed so that entry into the marketplace is also accessible to local enterprises and startups.” A look at licensing fees when they are decided (and how they correspond to locals’ finances) should give better insight into how truthful her statement is.

Antigua and Barbadu decriminalized personal possession and personal cultivation, and are looking to set up a regulatory system for medical and religious cannabis production.

Conclusion

Many things can instigate change in legislation. General changes in society and popular opinion, socioeconomic issues within a country, emerging industries becoming available, and the need for change due to religious and personal freedoms.

And while Rastas in Jamaica might not care about how much money the government of the Virgin Islands hopes to make by legalizing cannabis completely and setting up an oasis for tourists to come smoke in, both parties are after the same thing in the end… the ability to use cannabis freely, whether for medical use, recreational good times, or for religious purposes. And while the Caribbean region would likely have begun updating its cannabis laws regardless, as its quite a trend these days, it has been pushed along faster, no doubt, by grievances of religious repression, and desires for religious freedom.

The Science Behind Cannabis and Creativity

If you’re a musician, writer, painter, sculptor or any other type of artist, it’s a pretty widely accepted idea that cannabinoids can help boost artistic abilities and cannabis has long-been used as a tool to unlock creativity, imagination, and new ways of thinking.

It’s something I myself have said while sitting down in front of my computer preparing to write a new article. “I’ll just smoke a little to boost my creativity.” Then after a couple of hits, you’re completely and devoutly focused on the task at hand, letting your artistry flow from the depths of your soul to the tips of your fingers.

But how exactly do cannabinoids impact the creative process? And why do they work? What are the limitations? These are the burning questions about this topic that rarely get covered, so, let’s take a closer look.

Use the sign-up form below to subscribe to the CBD Flowers Weekly Newsletter

Convergent and Divergent Thinking – Connecting Abstract Ideas

To understand how cannabis plays a role in the creative process, we must first understand how exactly creativity works. Creativity is powered by the frontal lobe of the brain, and it refers to the use of imagination or original ideas to create something of value. This often applies to artistic work but creative thinking – or divergent thinking – can actually be utilized in many aspects of our lives.

Divergent thinking is a common “scientific measure” of creativity. The opposite of convergent thinking, which is very linear and aims for reaching one single solution to a problem; divergent thinking uses creativity and imagination to generate multiple answers and options to resolve an issue. In psychology literature, divergent thinking is often used as a direct synonym for creativity.  The term was first coined by psychologist J.P. Guilford in 1956.

According to Guilford and other psychologists, “A high IQ alone does not guarantee creativity. Instead, personality traits that promote divergent thinking are more important. Divergent thinking is found among people with personality traits such as nonconformity, curiosity, willingness to take risks, and persistence.”

In our everyday lives, divergent thinking is used when you brainstorm all the possibilities for accomplishing a set goal. For example, figuring out what kind of dinner you can make with the minimal ingredients in your cabinets because you don’t feel like going to the grocery store. Some people would be frantically scouring the internet for recipes, then give up and go to the store. Others would be able to whip up something delicious with a couple cans of food and some creative seasoning combos. The latter are divergent thinkers.

A very small study conducted a few years ago by University College London observed that cannabis was associated with improved divergent thinking patterns in 15 participants.

The Research – High Doses vs Low Doses

Research into the link between cannabis, creativity, and the brain’s frontal lobe dates back almost 3 decades.  A study completed by Jasen Talise and published in the Berkeley Medical Journal in 1992 found that cerebral blood flow (CBF) to the frontal lobe increased after cannabis consumption. These results were echoed in another study conducted in 2002.

Some Amazing Benefits of Using THC

According to Talise, in a statement to representatives from the Department of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, “When subjects with high and low creativity are compared, they have both higher baseline frontal lobe activity and greater frontal increase while performing creative tasks.”

Now, this isn’t to say that you should roll up a fatty and get blazed into oblivion. Apparently, there is a fine line between creative stoned and can’t-focus-on-anything stoned, and dosage is key to staying on the right side of that line. Research conducted by the team at Leafly found that low doses of THC (5.5 mg), slightly improved two aspects of divergent thinking: fluency and flexibility. Fluency refers to the number of responses provided, and flexibility is the variation in answers given.

However, when it comes to the originality of the responses, scores were significantly higher in the group that used low doses of THC. When the dose was bumped up to 22 mg of THC, scores were lower across the board.

THC vs CBD

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are chemically related and found in the same plant – they are the most dominant cannabinoids as a matter of fact – but they have very different effects on the human body. Most obvious is that THC gets you high and CBD doesn’t, but that barely scratches the surface.

THC and CBD both interact with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS), but they impact it in different ways. THC activates the 2 major ECS receptors in the brain – CB1 and CB2 – but CBD does not. CBD can actually interfere with the way THC impacts the CB receptors, which is precisely why dosing and ratios (THC:CBD) are so important for successful therapies with cannabis-based products.

Anandamide – The “Bliss” Molecule of the Endocannabinoid System

CBD has an indirect effect on these two receptors, by interacting with other receptors and neurons that then interact with the CB receptors. This partially explains why CBD is non-psychoactive and THC is. CBD can also boost the body’s levels of endocannabinoids, which are the cannabinoids naturally produced by all mammals, by inhibiting the enzymes that break them down.

So, while CBD does have an impact in the brain, there is no known connection between this cannabinoid and the frontal lobe. THC, on the other hand, does directly impact this region. This is why THC is frequently linked to creativity while CBD is connected to health and wellness.

Openness to Experience

Some interesting results from this 2017 study found that cannabis users self-reported being more creative in general, and they were able to back up these statements by actually scoring higher when their creativity was put to the test.

The study also tested personality types using a common system called the Big 5 measure, and found that cannabis users scored higher in a category called Openness to Experience.  “While cannabis users appear to demonstrate enhanced creativity, these effects are an artifact of their heightened levels of openness to experience,” the study noted.

Adventures with Flowers: The Paint Sesh SoCal

So, this begs the question; does cannabis make people more creative, or are naturally creative people just more inclined to use cannabis? Well, some research conducted in 2012 might shed some light on this. In this study, participants were divided into two initial groups: high creativity and low creativity. They were tested sober, then under the influence of cannabis.

In the high creativity group, the cannabis had no discernable effects. However, testing scores in the low creativity group were noticeably increased after partaking. Simply put, this study says that if you’re not already creative, cannabis might be able to give you that extra boost to get a project started. But if you’re already creative, cannabis probably won’t do much to help you.

Final Thoughts

The important thing to take note of here, is that these studies are all to be taken with a grain of salt. When it comes to creativity, everything is so subjective. What helps inspire one artist might completely hinder another. Cannabis and creativity are not one in the same, but they are certainly kindred and profoundly connected.

Bottom line, it’s worth a try. And if you find that cannabis does in fact help you get more in touch with your creative side, like it does for many of us, by all means embrace it!

Why CBD Flowers Are a Growing Trend With Millennial Smokers

When it comes to currently trending products and ideas, there’s a huge chance that it was started by millennials – enter CBD Flowers.

Despite their negative reputation in the media, millennials are compassionate, progressive and innovative problem solvers that are really the fire fueling the cannabis and CBD movements. If it wasn’t for millennials, these industries wouldn’t exist, at least not on the massive level on which they exist today. Seeing as how they’re the backbone of the industry, it makes sense that CBD Flowers are a growing trend amongst millennials, let’s take a look at why.

Defining “Millennials”

Millennials are the demographic group between
Generation X and Generation Z. Millennials are sometimes referred to as Generation
Y, although that’s not as common. It’s widely accepted that the defining age
range for millennials is those born between 1981 to 1996, however, those
numbers vary slightly based on who you ask. As someone born in the early 90s, I’m
smack-dab in the middle of the millennial time frame.

As of July 1, 2019, millennials are officially
the largest living adult generation, surpassing Baby Boomers, who were born
between 1946 and 1964. Although millennials get a lot of flak for being easily
offended, entitled, and even lazy – this stereotype only applies so a small
percentage of the millennial population. And let’s be real for a minute here,
people of all ages can be easily offended, entitled, and lazy.

Millennials have brought forth many societal
issues to the American people, exploring subjects like racial and ethnic
diversity, civil liberties, women’s advancements, and equal rights. Millennial women,
just like Gen X women, are more likely to participate in the nation’s workforce
than prior generations of women.

Growing Popularity of CBD Flowers

According to a new market research report published by Markets and Markets earlier this year, the hemp industry is expected to see a compound annual growth rate of around 34%. The report, titled “Industrial Hemp Market by Type (Hemp Seed , Hemp Seed oil, Hemp Fiber, and CBD Hemp Oil), Application (Food, Beverages, Personal Care Products, Textiles, and Pharmaceuticals), Source (Organic and Conventional), and Region – Global Forecast to 2025″, predicts the hemp market will reach USD $26.6 billion by 2025.

Hemp Market Growth Predictions: $26.6 Billion By 2025

Breaking it down further, one of the fastest-growing sectors of the hemp industry is smokable CBD flowers. Although this is a rather volatile market, there’s no denying that demand for CBD flowers is growing exponentially, not just in the U.S. but throughout the rest of the world. Hemp flowers have been popular in Europe for quite some time already as cannabis-users in many European countries prefer low-THC flower.

Research from Brightfield Group, a Chicago-based cannabis industry research
firm, the smokable hemp/CBD flower market was roughly $71 million at the close
of 2019. This is a 500% increase from 2018, when the market totaled only $11.7
million. They didn’t provide any information about projected numbers, but as
you can see, that’s a huge year-over-year increase.

According to Brightfield analyst Bethany Gomez says they discovered this growing trend by calling retailers, including smoke shops, spas and natural-food stores, to find out what they were selling. Many of these stores, including those that sell CBD flowers, are frequented by millennials and gen z sh

Why CBD Flowers Are So Popular

I can’t speak for
why CBD flowers are so popular among this specific demographic, but I can
definitely think of many reasons why someone (of any age) would chose to try them.
First and foremost, they’re super relaxing; but in a different way than regular
cannabis. While regular cannabis will actually make you feel a certain level of
high (stoned, baked, lit, or whatever you want to call it), CBD flower chills
you out with no psychoactive effects. You can unwind after work or out with
friends but still have a clear head and keep your wits about you.

It’s also legal, which is a huge selling point for anyone concerned about breaking the law. Following the 2018 Farm Bill, all forms of hemp – defined as having very low levels of THC – became legal in the U.S., but we’ll touch more on that a bit later. As far as low THC goes, it’s also more likely that you’ll pass a drug test if you’re only using CBD Flowers, but that’s not 100% guaranteed.

CBD Flowers 101: 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions Answered

The price point is another plus side to using CBD flower, as it’s usually considerably cheaper than high-quality THC-dominant cannabis. Many online retailers often have great deals on ounces and pounds that can be shipped directly to your home. If you need help finding good-quality CBD flowers at a low price, check out our newsletter – The CBD Flowers Weekly.

A survey conducted by Acosta found that the key CBD demographics are millennial men, most of which have a college degree. Forty-eight percent of male survey respondents said they use CBD daily or “as-needed”, compared tos 28% of female participants.

Health Benefits of CBD

If you search online, you’ll find
there is a claim for CBD helping with nearly every medical condition under the
sun. Although a lot of these notions can be attributed to misinformation, placebo
effects, and some over-ambitious advertising, there are a few conditions that
actually have been studied thoroughly and respond well to CBD treatments. Most
commonly, CBD is used for anxiety and depression, chronic pain, inflammation,
and epilepsy.

The only FDA-approved CBD-based medication, Epidiolex, is
used to treat two rare forms of epilepsy: Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gestaut
Syndrome. Not only is this medication used in the United States, it’s also has large
market in Europe under the name Epidyolex, and it has also been
cleared for clinical trials in Japan.

A lesser known but equally important therapeutic use for CBD is to
help people kick
their addictions
to various substances. Over the years, multiple studies
have been published outlining how CBD can do wonders for those who are hooked
on cigarettesalcohol, and/or opioids. Habitual use of these substances is not only dangerous to
the individual, but there are major societal repercussions as well.

What’s the Legal Situation Here?

Honestly, it’s still all very
confusing and continuously changing. To quickly sum it up, it’s legal thanks to
the 2018 Farm Bill, but highly regulated. Before we can get into the legalities
of hemp, we need to look at how the government defines hemp.

According to the FDA, hemp is defined as “the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

The DEA Removes CBD From the Controlled Substances Act – But There’s A Catch

Hemp, both industrial and smokable CBD
Flowers, are NOT regulated as controlled substances. However, any manufactured
product containing cannabis or hemp extracts (ie – cannabinoids) still is. That
means CBD, medications, supplements, and cosmetics are still technically
illegal unless they have been subjected to FDA-approval, which is a tedious and
costly endeavor.

This policy isn’t slated to change anytime soon, the only difference is that now, Epidiolex can be manufactured and sold as non-controlled substance. In the United States, most medications such as those for blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions, and other common illnesses are not considered “controlled substances”. Medications that can cause intoxication and/or those that lead to mental and physical dependence, like opioid pain medications for example, are regulated under the controlled substances act because there are restrictions on the way these prescriptions can be filled and refilled.

Final Thoughts

You may have thought that Boomers were the largest demographic
shopping for CBD flowers, but it’s actually millennials. As a group that’s focused
on innovation, wellness, and homeopathy, it makes sense they would gravitate
toward CBD flowers, as well as other cannabidiol infused products.

Government Assistance Options for U.S. Hemp Farmers Affected By COVID-19

After decades of prohibition, the 2018 Farm Bill granted full legal status to hemp a couple years ago. Many thought this would be the end of various challenges that have been plaguing those in the industry for years.

This is actually true, for people in the hemp industry, many new rights have been achieved these last couple of years. This includes advances on the banking front and many, much-needed benefits for farmers. Unfortunately though, the U.S. hemp industry has been off to a rough start and the current COVID-19 has only made the road ahead even bumpier, especially for farmers.

Use the sign-up form below to subscribe to the CBD Flowers Business Newsletter.

Ongoing Challenges in the Hemp Industry

For years, hemp farmers (as well as everyone else in the hemp, CBD, and cannabis industries) historically struggled with banking. They were unable to have access to banking, business loans, and other services offered by large financial institutions. Another common problem, and one that was specific to farmers, was a lack of crop insurance. Should a natural disaster (or global pandemic) occur that impacted a farmer’s crops or business, they would have been, for lack of a better word, totally and utterly screwed.

But that all changed thanks to the passing of the updated, 2018 farm bill, which legalized hemp and offered farmers and business owners a new level of institutional support. However, that doesn’t mean other challenges don’t continue to pop up.

In addition to ongoing issues with law enforcement and those who still stigmatize hemp and confuse it with cannabis/marijuana, the industry has some unique issues such as: FDA delays with establishing regulation of CBD products, manufactured CBD products continue to be regulated under the controlled substances act, extremely prohibitive federal cultivation restrictions with “heavy DEA presence”, a hemp market that’s facing oversupply and plummeting values.

COVID-19 Is Adding to
the Problem

As if all the aforementioned struggles weren’t bad enough, now hemp farmers face additional challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Farmers and small business owners (in all industries not just hemp) have been hit particularly hard these last few weeks.

Cannabis Use During the COVID-19 Outbreak – A Look At The Numbers

“Agriculture
is deemed essential, but there’s an agricultural dynamic that’s being created
by the pandemic where it’s interfering with the supply chain,” said Tim
Gordon, president of the Colorado Hemp Industries Association. “These
disruptions are going all the way to the hemp farmers.”

“More than 17,000 farmers
licensed to grow hemp are experiencing significant headwinds and instability as
a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and must be able to access disaster relief
programs that can support them now,” Eric Steenstra, president of Vote
Hemp, mentioned in a statement.

Benefits For Hemp Farmers During the Pandemic

Although this is obviously not good news, the silver lining is that since hemp is federally legal now, industry businesses are eligible for for Small Business Administration loans, federal stimulus packages, federal and state agricultural grant programs, tax relief, and other benefits.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act”) both provide economic relief for small businesses (and hemp farmers) impacted by COVID-19. Unfortunately, SBA policy dictates that marijuana and ancillary businesses are not eligible for benefits.

Additionally, new legislation added another $10 billion to the disaster loan programand increased paycheck protection funding from to $349 to $659 billion after the initial amount quickly ran out. A record number of businesses applied, including some large chains with more than 500 employees. However, the majority of funds went to smaller companies.

CBD Flowers 101: 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Loan Programs

Let’s take a quick look at what loan programs are available for hemp farmers and small business owners and what each package includes.

SBA Loans:

  • Paycheck Protection Program (which quickly exhausted funds but was replenished by Congress last week by $321 billion).
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and advances.
  • Small businesses and farms are eligible.

EIDL Loans:

  • Up to $2 million in
loas to be used for payroll, fixed debts and other bills.
  • Up to $10,000 without
repayment if used for: Paid sick leave. Maintaining payroll to retain
employees. Meeting increased costs as a result of interrupted supply chains,
rent or mortgage payments or to repay obligations that can’t be met because of
    revenue losses.

Additional benefits include Payment Protection Program loans, which allow borrowers to cover payroll, rent payment or mortgage interest, and other business-related costs. PPP loans are forgivable and they’re processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding for this program is expected to continue.

Also available is the SBA
Express Bridge loans that provide expedited loans of up to $25,000 for
disaster-related purposes. These loans are processed quickly and can be
used to bridge the gap while applying for EIDL or PPP. Express Bridge loans must
be repaid in full, and due to the ongoing crisis, they will be approved through
March 12, 2021.

Even More For Farmers

In addition to programs
listed above, the CARES Act appropriated relief funds specifically to the
agricultural sector. These include:

  • $9.5 billion to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide financial support to farmers and ranchers.
  • $14 billion to the Commodity Credit Corp. (CCC), which will allow the USDA to develop new support programs to help agricultural businesses.
  • Extensions on repayment of commodity marketing assistance loans.

Last week, the USDA
announced a $19 billion agricultural relief package, providing direct payments
to farmers based on commodity losses. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue
confirmed that the $500 million earmarked for “other crops” includes hemp. This
package includes:

  • $9.6 billion for the livestock industry.
  • $3.9 billion to row crop producers.
  • $2.1 billion to specialty crop producers.
  • $500 million for other crops.

Hemp farmers also might be eligible for the USDA’s $16 billion Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, which will provide additional subsidies for commodity losses.

What’s the Deal with Organic Regulation for Cannabis?

Other Non-emergency
Farm Service Agency loans may or may not be available for hemp farmers. These include
but are not limited to: direct operating loans, farm ownership loans, USDA
organic certification cost sharing programs, farm storage facility loans, and
specialty loans for minority and women farmers, novice farmers, and Native American
Tribes.

Hemp farmers should
also consider looking into state-level benefits. Many states including Colorado,
California, and Kentucky are offering added benefits and relief packages, on top
of what one would get from the federal government.

For more information and updates to these loan programs, check out the USDA’s Resource Guide.

Final Thoughts

Even though there is never a good time for a global pandemic, at the very least it happened after hemp became federally legal, meaning these hard-working farmers can at least access some benefits to prevent them from being completely bankrupted by the COVID-19 crisis. CBD Flowers are becoming increasingly popular among consumers of all ages, but there are many questions about this industry that remain to be answered.

Despite the large and continuously growing number of CBD Flower users – access to reliable data regarding health effects, laws, and general use remains severely limited. When talking to friends, reading articles and scrolling through social media comments, I’m often astounded by the inaccuracy of the information I see floating around.

That said, this article aims to answer all the most commonly asked questions we hear about CBD Flowers. Scroll down to see if your questions made the list!

1. Can CBD Flower make you fail a drug test?

By far one of the most common questions asked about CBD flower is whether it will cause you to fail a drug test or not. There are a lot of adults out there who would use cannabis if they could, but because of drug testing policies at their places of employment, they are forced to refrain.

Many switch to CBD flowers for something to
smoke socially and help them unwind without risking their jobs. That said, the
risk of failing a drug test because of CBD Flower use is extremely unlikely,
with an emphasis on the “extremely” part. If you but flowers from reputable
vendors whose lab reports you can trust, then you probably won’t fail a drug
test.

2. Do CBD Flowers get you high?

The answer to this question is a resounding “no”. Some people might swear they felt a buzz from the CBD buds they just smoked, but if that’s actually the case, then there are higher levels of THC in those flowers than indicated. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis that causes the high we all know and love. If the CBD flower strain of your choosing has only trace amounts of THC like advertised, then you will NOT feel any intoxication.

CBD interacts with a different set of
neuroreceptors in the central nervous system, so the resulting effects are
quite diverse. While CBD flowers are known to make people feel relaxed and even
a bit euphoric at times, it doesn’t impact the brain in the same way as THC. So
once again, NO, you will not get high from smoking CBD flowers.

3. How does CBD Flower make you feel?

Referring back to the previous question, CBD flowers won’t get you high but they will certainly help you relax and unwind. Exact effects will vary depending on the strain, but generally speaking, CBD flower can make you feel calm and peaceful while maintaining a clear head and higher level of focus than you would typically have when using regular cannabis.

CBD’s Role in the Treatment of Multiple Mental Health Disorders

Bouncing off the idea of relaxation, one thing that people very often use CBD flowers (and other CBD products) for is to manage anxiety. Although minimal studies have been done on the effectiveness of CBD to treat the various conditions its touted for, anxiety is one disorder that actually has a lot of research behind it.

4. Can you smoke CBD Flower?

You definitely can and this is my preferred
method of consumption. You can smoke them any number of ways just like cannabis.
It can be smoked in a pipe/bowl or bong, and it can be rolled into a joint or
blunt.

Some people prefer vaping over smoking. It’s
believed to be safer because you can control the temperature, setting it lower so
the plant matter doesn’t get burned and release toxins and carcinogens that are
often found in smoke of any kind.

5. Is CBD Flower safe?

As far as smoking goes, CBD flower is definitely
one of the safer things to consume. In general, the longterm health effects of smoking
cannabis or hemp are minimal in comparison to those resulting from cigarettes.
Tobacco smoke can lead to numerous, lifelong health conditions impacting the
lungs, mouth, throat, liver, and many other parts of the body. Experts indicate
that smoking any plant matter runs a certain level of risk, most agree that it’s
relatively safe.

So, that covers the issue of CBD flowers vs tobacco, but what about in comparison to OTC and prescription medications, considering so many people use CBD flowers medicinally? Again, the safety profile of CBD flowers is quite good. A lot of medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, can have some seriously nasty side effects. Opioids have been known to result in devastating issues with addiction, and even Tylenol is notoriously unsafe and can lifelong lifelong liver damage.

6. What is the best CBD Flower?

We get asked questions like this a lot. “What is the best CBD flower?” Or, “what strain should I choose?” Honestly, this depends on way to many factors to be able to accurately answer. But what we can do is help you figure out what to consider when you’re stocking up.

The CBD Flowers Weekly Newsletter

What are you using the flowers for –
recreational or medicinal? What kind of flavors do you like, are there any genetics
you normally prefer? Are you a novice user or seasoned smoker? For example, I
use cannabis and hemp recreationally, one of my favorite strains is blue dream,
and I’m a seasoned smoker. That narrows it down to certain flavor profiles and
strains that have the highest levels of cannabinoids.

7. Does CBD Flower smell and taste?

Absolutely, it smells amazing! And since smell
is flavor, it also tastes amazing! Because it’s literally just cannabis minus
the THC, CBD hemp flower has many of the same terpenes and flavonoids, thus
resulting in similar flavors and aromas. The same principal applies here as
with cannabis, the lower the quality of the flower, the less pronounced the
flavor and smell will be.

There are a few things you can do to help improve
or maintain the flavor and smell of your buds. First and foremost, let’s talk
about storage. To prolong the life of your flowers, you’ll want to keep them in
high-quality (airtight if possible) glass jars. Another thing that has a huge
impact on the flavor is moisture. If your buds are dry and crumbly, they will
probably be lacking in the flavor department too. A quick fix is to put a
tortilla strip in the jar with your weed. It will liven it right back up,
bringing back some much-needed moisture without changing the existing flavor.
If you DO want to change the flavor a bit, use a citrus peel instead of a tortilla.

8. How much does CBD Flower cost?

This is one of those questions that can’t be answered with 100% accuracy because the cost of CBD flowers is constantly chaning. Within the CBD hemp flower industry, pricing various based on region, quality, demand, and specific retailer. Overall, it’s cheaper than THC flower and it can be conveniently ordered online from anywhere in the United States. As global supply of CBD flower continues to ramp up, we’ll see prices drop even further.

Global CBD Prices Tumble As U.S. Oversupply Floods Market

As a general rule of thumb, I wouldn’t pay more than $100 for 1 ounce of top-notch CBD flowers. If you’re paying more than that, you can likely find comparable quality for a lower price elsewhere. Even when it comes to THC-dominant cannabis buds, I can always find high-quality product for $150/oz or less (just so you can see for comparison). 9. Are CBD Flowers indica or sativa?

This is another one of those tricky and difficult-to-answer questions about CBD Flowers. The overall consensus is that hemp flowers share more genetic traits with sativas, but finding a true “purebred” sativa or indica strain these days is actually quite rare.

After generations of cross-breeding, nearly
all cannabis and hemp strains on earth are now hybrids. Some are
indica-dominant, some are sativa-dominant, and some are evenly split. For the
most part, CBD flower strains are sativa-dominant hybrids, many coming up as
variations of already popular sativa strains such as Green Crack and Blue
Dream.

10. Are CBD Flowers legal?

YES! CBD Flowers are legal in the United States. The laws surrounding cannabis and hemp are notoriously confusing, but simply put, raw CBD hemp flower with less than 0.3% THC is legal nationwide. The 2018 Farm Bill officially legalized CBD flower at the federal level.

However, when it comes to manufactured products using CBD – including but not limited to medications, supplements, and cosmetics – these are still regulated under the DEA’s Controlled Substance Act. So, unless approved by the DEA and FDA, these products are still illegal.

A Beginner’s Guide To Growing Cannabis or CBD Flowers: Part 1, The Basics

With everyone on social isolation, businesses shutdown, and
some mild uncertainty in the cannabis industry, what better time than now to work
on your green thumb and start your own home-grow?

I understand it might sound a bit daunting, and yes, it does take a certain level of work and dedication, but it’s really not as hard (or expensive) as you may think. With a little bit of planning and the right equipment, you can have your own buds in just a few months. Now, let’s get down to the basics.

Indoor or Outdoor?

The very first thing you’ll need to do is decide if you want to grow your plants inside or outside. Of course, indoor grown cannabis will be of superior quality, but it takes more work and a larger initial investment. Choosing to grow inside also depends largely on if you have enough space to pull it off. A nice sized closet would work, where you can hook up some lights and the plants will have enough room to grow both in height and width, but be mindful of your electric use outside the growroom, as your utility bills will go up significantly.

If you plan to grow outside, you’ll want to get familiar with your gardening zone, this will help you determine when to plant your crop for best results. Gardening zones in the United States are listed as 1-9, with 1 being the coldest and 9 being the hottest. Typically, somewhere between zones 6 and 8 will be optimal, but you can grow quite a bit in zone 9 if you have an adequate watering source. Some areas might not be suitable for growing cannabis outside at all, so bear that in mind when doing your research.

Another option that’s becoming increasing popular is growing cannabis or CBD hemp flowers in a greenhouse. Greenhosues replicate the atmosphere of an indoor grow, to an extent, and will save you a lot of money in energy costs. They allow for year-round cultivation in a climate controlled environment where you can regulate the sunlight exposure as you wish. If I were to choose an option, I’d personally go with the greenhouse.

Picking a Strain

Once you’ve settled on where you want to grow your plants, you’ll need to get everything set up. That starts with deciding what strain/s you want to grow. Cultivation methods for cannabis or CBD hemp flowers can vary depending on the strain you’re growing. Do you want a regular strain or an autoflowering strain? Indica, sativa, or hybrid? Cannabis that’s high in THC or a CBD hemp flowers? Let’s take a quick look at how each of these options might impact your grow-op or your final product.

What’s The Difference Between Sativa and Indica Strains?

We’ll start with regular strains vs autoflowering. With
regular cannabis and cbd flower plants, there are 2 main stages of the growing
cycle: the vegetative stage and the flowering stage. The transition from one
stage to the next requires changes in the plant’s light cycle. When growing
outside, you’ll need to make sure you plant in the correct season, so your
plants go into the vegetative stage when time “springs forward”. If you’re
growing inside, you’ll need different colored light bulbs to replicate the
changes.

With autoflowering strains, well, they switch to the
flowering stage automatically, without any assistance from external light
sources. These strains are typically easier to grow and would be ideal for the
novice grower, but generally speaking, the quality of the buds is not quite as
good as with regular strains. They are improving though and are already world’s
improved compared to the autoflowering strains of 10 years ago.

The next step is to pick an actual strain. You’ll need to
decide if you want indica, sativa, or hybrid, and whether you want THC cannabis
or CBD hemp flowers. This is the easy part since it really all boils down to
personal preference. For the record, a few easy to grow strains from are Blue
Dream, Green Crack, Harlequin, and Skunk.

 Getting Set Up

Seeds or clones? Seeds have more options but much more difficult. Clones are easier to grow but can be harder to find and sketchy to transport depending on where you live. If you choose to start from seed, the first thing you will need to do is get your plant sprouted. If you’re buying good quality seeds from a trusted seedbank, you can go ahead and put the seeds straight into the soil and let them do their thing.

Growing Aeroponic Cannabis: Is It Right For You?

If you find some seeds in your stash and want to test their
viability before putting planting them directly, you can germinate the seed by
putting in a damp paper towel, in a warm place with indirect sunlight. I use a windowsill
in my living where there is an overhang from the roof. Direct sunlight is often
too strong for germinating seeds and even for young, barely sprouted plants.

Now when it comes to actual growing equipment, that will vary based on the growing method you choose (indoor, outdoor, soil, hydro, aeroponic, etc.), or the climate you live in if you choose to grow outdoors.

That said, here are a few basic items you will likely need
no matter where or how you plan on growing:

  • Growing tent (with built in ventilation system)
  • Lights (with different color and wattage bulbs to for the flower stage)
  • Soil, coco coir, or another planting medium
  • Filtration fixtures
  • Timer
  • Thermometer
  • Hydrometer
  • Pots and other basic gardening tools

You can get all of these items for about $500 to $750, again, depending on your geographic location as well as what exactly you need. If you’re growing inside, you’ll need to account for the higher utility bills as well.
