Ten Ways Cannabis Can Revive a Depressed Economy

An economic winter is coming, but don’t worry; we’ve compiled ten ways cannabis can revive a depressed economy. When many people hear “cannabis,” they may think of it as a recreational activity or a medical necessity. And it is. But it’s more than that. So while politicians will inevitably announce “stimulus” and bailouts, the real solution will come from entrepreneurs in a free market. And since Canada has already legalized cannabis, that’s one hurdle out of the way. Next, cut […]

Cannabis Recession 2023

Is a 2023 cannabis recession inevitable? While an economic downturn is inevitable, how the cannabis industry weathers the storm remains to be seen.  For sure, saturated retail markets will feel the hit as consumers cut back or make more discerning purchases. And large-scale industrial grows that have been more about selling equity than weed will feel the impact.  But why? Why has the value of cannabis stocks been removed from fundamentals? Why are small cannabis business owners – through no […]

Is Justin Trudeau’s Government Legitimate?

Is Justin Trudeau’s government legitimate? Last year, the Canadian prime minister dismissed reports that the Chinese funnelled money into Liberal Party candidates. “I do not have any information, nor have I been briefed on any federal candidates receiving any money from China,” Justin Trudeau told the press. But then a whistleblower in CSIS (Canada’s version of the CIA) revealed the truth: the cabinet had been briefed “multiple times” on the dangers of Chinese electoral interference. So will Canadians get a […]

How Successful is B.C.’s Community Safety Unit?

How successful is B.C.’s Community Safety Unit (CSU)? How many actions have they taken against cannabis shops? What are their enforcement rates like? Has the CSU had any mandates or powers expanded since its initial inception?  And the big question: what about unlicensed pot shops on Indian Reservations?  What is the CSU? B.C.’s Community Safety Unit is a British Columbia law enforcement agency. Established in 2018 and operational by 2019, it is part of the provincial government’s efforts to shut […]

Can You Travel with Cannabis in Canada?

Can you travel with cannabis in Canada? Canada has legalized cannabis for recreational use, but there are still some rules and restrictions around travelling with cannabis within the country. It is generally legal to travel with recreational cannabis within Canada as long as you meet specific requirements. For example, you must be of legal age (18 or 19 years old, depending on the province), you must have purchased the cannabis legally from a licensed retailer, and you must not exceed […]

Cannabis in Alberta

What’s the state of cannabis in Alberta? According to the headlines, not great. Calgary-based SNDL, previously known as Sundial Growers, is cutting nearly 100 jobs as part of an industry-wide reduction. “Oversupply and excess capacity have resulted in high-quality flower being widely available and sold well below the marginal cost of production,” SNDL Zach George said in a statement Monday. The news comes as other large producers have realized that they overextended themselves. Edmonton-based Aurora announced last year that they […]

5 Ways B.C. Decriminalization Could Work

Others have given their five reasons why B.C.’s decriminalization of drugs is a terrible idea. While I’m sympathetic to some of these arguments, I’ve come up with five ways for how B.C. decriminalization could work. It’s like cannabis legalization. Canada could have had a free and fair market that expunged past records and welcomed our world-renown “B.C. Bud” underground economy into the limelight. Instead, the Trudeau government continued the large producer regime set up under Stephen Harper’s government. Legalization in […]

Three Cannabis-Impaired Driving Myths

What are three cannabis-impaired driving myths? In a piece for Farmers Forum, James Pascual reports that drug-impaired driving charges have more than doubled since Canada legalized cannabis.  Of course, the “significant increase in the prevalence of drug use” in drivers includes alcohol and prescription medicines. As well, plenty of people were driving on cannabis before. The difference is now police have the tools and training to look for it. Pascual’s article is heavy on opinion and light on facts. For example, he […]

Cannabis Industry Sues Canadian Banks

The cannabis industry is suing Canadian banks. Canada’s legal cannabis industry has launched a class-action lawsuit against Canada’s large cartel of banks. They allege the banks have discriminated against them by arbitrarily closing accounts and denying services and access to credit. Included in the class action are “all individuals or corporations that, directly or indirectly, do business with the major defendant banks and who are involved in the legal cannabis industry since October 17, 2018,” says the press release. The […]

Can Drugs Hijack Your Brain?

With legal cannabis across Canada and drugs like fentanyl and heroin decriminalized in British Columbia, the question remains: can drugs hijack your brain? It’s an all-too-common belief among so-called “experts” and the general public. The general idea is that drugs (or food, gambling, porn, etc.) can “hijack” the brain’s dopamine pathways and essentially compel you to behave a certain way. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in the brain’s reward system. The brain releases it in response […]
