Justice Department to Appeal Cannabis Gun Rights

In a not-so-surprising move, the U.S. Government’s Justice Department will appeal a federal court decision protecting the gun rights of cannabis consumers. Last month, a U.S. judge ruled the gun ban for cannabis users was unconstitutional. Judge Wyrick cited a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that dealt with a Second Amendment interpretation. In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v Bruen, the Supreme Court found that New York’s restrictions on concealed carry violated the Fourteenth Amendment by stopping “law-abiding citizens with […]

How Successful is B.C.’s Community Safety Unit?

How successful is B.C.’s Community Safety Unit (CSU)? How many actions have they taken against cannabis shops? What are their enforcement rates like? Has the CSU had any mandates or powers expanded since its initial inception?  And the big question: what about unlicensed pot shops on Indian Reservations?  What is the CSU? B.C.’s Community Safety Unit is a British Columbia law enforcement agency. Established in 2018 and operational by 2019, it is part of the provincial government’s efforts to shut […]

Twitter Allows Cannabis Companies to Advertise

Last week Twitter became the first social media giant to allow cannabis companies to advertise. Previously, only hemp-deprived topical products could advertise. Twitter is the lone wolf among social media companies allowing cannabis companies to advertise. Other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok have a no-cannabis advertising policy. A statement from Twitter said only cannabis companies in the legal states would be permitted to advertise. As well, the ads can’t target anyone under 21 years old. Is This Elon’s Doing? […]

Netherlands to Launch Cannabis Pilot Program

The government of the Netherlands will launch a cannabis pilot program with the goal of full-scale legalization.  Wait, you might ask, doesn’t the country with Amsterdam cafes already have legal cannabis? Technically, no. Not legal, like in Canada or Uruguay. The Dutch decriminalized cannabis in 1972, making possessing an ounce or less a misdemeanour. By 1976, “coffeeshops” were all the rage. The official policy is one of tolerance. So while it is still technically illegal to buy, sell, or produce […]

Can You Travel with Cannabis in the United States?

Can you travel with cannabis in the United States of America? While states like Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington may have legalized it, cannabis is still federally prohibited. So cannabis may be legal in some states. But it is still a controlled substance, according to Washington D.C. (Even though the residents living in the District of Columbia voted to […]

Cannabis Use Increases Risk of Heart Disease, Study Says

A recent American College of Cardiology study says daily cannabis use increases the risk of heart disease. Particularly coronary artery disease (CAD), which is the most common form of heart disease. The study, which analyzed data from 175,000 people, said cannabis consumers are 34% more likely to develop the heart condition. The researchers claim tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) interacts with the body’s blood vessels promoting inflammation and plaque buildup. The study did not distinguish between smoking, vaping, edibles, or extracts. The researchers […]

Can You Travel with Cannabis in Canada?

Can you travel with cannabis in Canada? Canada has legalized cannabis for recreational use, but there are still some rules and restrictions around travelling with cannabis within the country. It is generally legal to travel with recreational cannabis within Canada as long as you meet specific requirements. For example, you must be of legal age (18 or 19 years old, depending on the province), you must have purchased the cannabis legally from a licensed retailer, and you must not exceed […]

THCO is a Controlled Substance: DEA

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says Delta-8 and -9 THCO are controlled substances, even when derived from hemp. The DEA said that Delta-8 and -9 THCO “do not occur naturally in the cannabis plant and can only be obtained synthetically, and therefore do not fall under the definition of hemp.” Since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp, some manufacturers have been able to create synthetic highs from the cannabinoids found in hemp—this concerned attorney Rod Kight who inquired about their […]

Australia to Legalize Medical Psychedelics

With a medical cannabis program that stinks of reefer madness and the decision to create COVID internment camps, Australia is the last country you’d expect to legalize medical psychedelics. But a recent decision by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) will soon make it legal for psychiatrists to prescribe psilocybin and MDMA come July 2023. This would be like if Health Canada came to their senses and made Canada’s psychedelic medicine exemption as accessible as the government-assisted suicide program. (Telling […]

Cannabis in Alberta

What’s the state of cannabis in Alberta? According to the headlines, not great. Calgary-based SNDL, previously known as Sundial Growers, is cutting nearly 100 jobs as part of an industry-wide reduction. “Oversupply and excess capacity have resulted in high-quality flower being widely available and sold well below the marginal cost of production,” SNDL Zach George said in a statement Monday. The news comes as other large producers have realized that they overextended themselves. Edmonton-based Aurora announced last year that they […]
